Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Rider Hayes Wins SuperBike Pole At Infineon Raceway2012-05-06 11:32
Improving on his provisional-qualifying lap time from yesterday, two-time reigning AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes won the pole in AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike final qualifying at Infineon Raceway.
Josh went to work quickly on his #1 crossplane-crankshaft Yamaha YZF-R1® and remained solidly at the top of the charts throughout the entire final qualifying session. Without the blustery wind that occurred during provisional qualifying on Friday, Josh turned a 1:35:872 today, which was his fastest lap of the weekend and, obviously, the fastest lap of any SuperBike rider. Remarkably similar to the scenario that played out yesterday, Josh was, once again, nearly a full second faster than the second-place qualifier.
This was three pole positions in a row—in as many events—for Josh so far this season, which has netted him three valuable bonus points towards the successful defense of his SuperBike title.
Josh’s Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha SuperBike teammate Josh Herrin made good on his aim to move up in final qualifying, and he will start from the second row aboard his #2 R1 for Race 1 later today.
SuperBike Race 1 will go green later today at 3:15 PM PST, while SuperBike Race 2 is set for Sunday at 3:30 PM PST. Check your local TV listings for Speed TV’s telecast of both races.
