Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green Off and Running at the GNC Finals2012-03-07 08:07The amateur national season officially got underway today at the GNC Finals at Oak Hill MX in Decatur, Tex. In the event’s first day of racing, Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green got the week off to a good start scoring nine moto wins and a podium sweep. KX™85 pilot Austin Forkner was the first Team Green rider to earn a moto win, followed shortly thereafter by teammate Carter Halpain. Reigning World Off Road Racing Series (WORCS) Women’s A and Super A champion Brandy Richards grabbed a win aboard her KX™250F and took runner-up in her second moto. Other Team Green riders who took home wins were Adam Cianciarulo, Justin Hill, Garrett Marchbanks, Mitchell Harrison, and Ty Siminoe. In total, Team Green riders netted 27 top-three moto finishes before the Texas sun set. “This event is so much fun,” said Halpain. “It’s cool getting to camp and hang out with all your friends and family. When I’m not racing I like to hang out in the skate park with my friends. I’m from Texas and I really like riding this track because there is so much sand. I got a great start in my first moto. I started around third then got out front and put it in cruise mode until the finish. The track was getting pretty rough by my second moto, which was moto 19.” It’s All About the Racer Since the GNC was founded in 1976 the mission statement has remained the same, “It’s all about the racer.” When families come out to Oak Hill MX to experience the GNC Finals, the event provides much more than just racing. Families come from all over the nation to be part of the event, pulling into the paddock with their camp trailers and motorhomes. In addition to motorcycle racing, the venue at Oak Hill also provides a skate park, basketball court, tetherball court, and a Traxxas Try-Me track. Today’s special event was the Gladiator Challenge, which provided kids a chance to have fun and compete with each other, off the racetrack. Whether they’re out racing or just having fun with friends, the first amateur national event of year provides a great time for everyone.
