ABS upgrade available for 2012 ZX14r?

Wanted ABS on the 2012 ZX14r, when purchased but not available on first year production. Does anyone know if kawasaki can or offers an UPGRADE KIT to add ABS brakes to the 2012 ZX14r?

If so any ideas on pricing?

Thanks

NW

I've never heard of that but knowing the usual high cost of parts It would probably be cheaper to trade the bike for one with ABS.

You bet Kawasaki needs to offer this as an option for 2012 bikes, since they screwed the pooch and did not include it as standard equipment. They waited another year and jacked up the price!

Waiting to hear from madness racing in California now....

Shame on them...

Will do....

Well I for one bought mine this year cause i knew they would add it in 2013. List on the se 2013 with it is 16,300.00 . This bike is not worth that much money. I wish they would have put abs on this years bike instead of T .C. My daddy did`nt buy my bike so I think about my 1000 extra bucks.

I agree these bikes are not worth what the price is jumping to, I for one would rather have the traction control over abs junk any day. fuk 16,300 then add tax onto that over 17,000 for a jap bike. I for one will never buy new again look what he 2012's can be bought for already with low miles. hell 600's are over 10,000 now that makes them hard to move off the floors

Am in contact with 2013 abs owner who has removed his abs cause he only wants to drag race his ninja...

There seems to be a large wiring harness to install and plug in to make the system work, I have not found any extra large female plug in my battery compartment to make his 2013 abs unit workable...but we are still researching it.

2012 ZX14r was not equipped with any abs potential spare wiring harnesses, they didn't think about that as a marketing ploy til mid year, now the 2013 has it at a big upgraded pricing. So much for marketing at our expense.

The concours abs was only a 300.00 upgrade on the 2008 units over non/abs units..they really had a big price increase on abs in 4 year!!!

Am sorry to see Kawasaki do that to their customers...little did I know abs would be offered on the 2013 bikes, but had the hots for the 2012, especially the green color...so took the plunge. Have never ever locked up my brakes on any bike until Thanksgiving morning...all on a dead squirrel in the middle of the road...in an apex turn...locked, skidded threw me down and the bike went 75 80 feet down the road into a ditch.....lots of fairing damage, but had safety gear on real sore on my body..but nothing broken...helmet in bad shape and jacket...but survived it.

If ABS was on the Ninja..none of this would have occurred.

ABS will be a flop for the 2013 ZX-14r,if Kawasaki offered both ABS/non the sales would show that a handful of people want it like the ZX-10.

2012 Euro has ABS, what about that harness?

wee

My man is telling me there is an electrical harness, has a female plug located in battery compartment that plugs the ABS harness into it. My 2012 has no female harness that i have seen like he describes.....so it probably will not fit since it was not designed for ABS for the 2012 model year.....

May get some pics so will advise when I have the info....

Something also to think about for would be ABS converters the front sensor mount is on the right fork. It's only a boss On yhe 12 models so the hole and threads would have to be machined. That may mean fork removal possibly disassembly.

Goldwingmann - It looks like the 2012 ABS wiring harness has an additional connector with 15 wires that needs to go to the ABS pump. The non-ABS 2012 wiring harness does not have this wiring or connector. The main harness looks like it needs to be changed to the ABS version in addition to the other ABS hardware for this conversion to work.

I was looking at my C-14 and see that, so it may be a major upgrade and may want to reconsider the option...but am really concerned with safety and don't ever want to lock up my front like I did 3 days ago and go down.....Never!

Bluestar....

In your opinion can I really do a 2012 ABS upgrade....or am I dreaming? What would you do if you were me? I want to know if this is feasible or is it too far fetched thinking to try to do this upgrade even if I had the parts??

Goldwingnann - It looked good to me, other than now doing the damned harness. I have a similar set up on my 2011 ZX10 and it is really a very compact and nicely integrated system. The ABS "piggy backs" on the existing Traction Control system and hardware wise should be doable on the 14. The ABS harness however, is another $500 and needs to be swapped out in addition to what you will be getting as "take offs". When you mentioned the missing connector, I checked the wiring and parts diagrams and sure enough that connector was missing - the ABS and non ABS harnesses are different . Damn - swapping out the main harness was not on my "to do" list for this conversion. The pump alone is over $900 and the hoses put the package at close to $1500 (sans the harness) from Kawasaki, so getting the parts the way you are should be much more cost effective. If you are OK with swapping out he main harness also then this should work - but you will be the pioneer for this conversion. As much as I would like to do this I will wait for the first successful installation before performing this change.
