Sportrider Magazine Rant
First of all, I really enjoy reading this magazine. It really helps to pass the time whilest on the porcelain throne. I really felt that they nailed the 1000cc sportbike comparo a few months ago crowning the zx10r the winner for the second year in a row. That engine simply is in a class of its own in the 1000cc market. (Can't wait to see the zx10r vs. BMW 1000 comparo).
But, when it comes to the hyper bikes, these guys are really missing it. First, they preferred the busa over the zx14. Ok great, yadda, yadda, yadda. Whateva.
This kills me because they are supposed to be comparing these bikes in off-the-shelf stock form. Yet, they are truly missing the fact the the busa's suspension and brakes absolutely suck. If all things were equal (which they about are), the zx14 would win simply on the brakes. Also, it's stock weight.
Then, a few issues later, they crown the BMW K1300S the hyperbike winner. WTF? They scored the BMW's engine power and power delivery higher than the busa. Once again, WTF? (As I grunt one out). They dyno'ed the BMW almost 20 HP and 10 ft-lbs less than the busa. They didn't even include the zx14 because the busa already "beat" it.
I wish we could get some more respect, but it is nice to show up at bike nite and see 60+ busas to my one zx14.

Don't get too upset by anything you read in a magazine, it's only the opinion of another guy and you don't neccessarily know what floats his boat.
They were right about the K1300S beating the Hayabusa but only in some respects. It is more comfortable for a start and it's lower geared, so feels a bit sharper. It has electronic suspension adjustment and BMW supply a quickshifter accessory too. Against, the BMW is mega-expensive, especially with all the options and there are some fuelling issues.
In roll-ons the BMW wins:
BMWK1300S 60-80 mph/2.71 sec.; 80-100 mph/2.82 sec.
Suzuki Hayabusa 60-80mph/2.98 sec.; 80-100 mph/3.07 sec.
In the quarter the Hayabusa slays the BMW:
BMW K1300S 10.46 sec. @ 137.6 mph
Suzuki Hayabusa 9.96 sec. @ 145.8 mph
(Data from Sportrider)
Straightline speed is important to most people on these forums and of course we prefer our ZX-14's which are better still.

What a stupid test....... Whichever bike is geared the lowest is going to win that race. At least with the busa you can adjust your gearing. I hate it when magazines get so worked up and focused on gearing. Even if you do it the expensive way, it's less then a $300 fix with a speedo healer, and sprockets. BMW sucks the butt!

I wish they would do the same comparo with 'slightly' modified bikes, instead of stock bikes. That would be a better (real world) comparison.

The 14 with a gear change and flies out with 60-80 in slightly longer than the blink of an eye.

Hafta agree with everybody on this one. Their writers are total hacks! And this particular review/comparo was ridiculous.
Those Beemers are butt ugly pieces of crap anyway.
