Yamaha releases 2011 Model Lineup - all new Super Ténéré, FZ8, and Stryker

Yamaha releases their 2011 model lineup - with three all new models among the BNG. The highlight appears to be the North American availability of the Euro adventure tourer the Super Ténéré available as a 2012 model, available May 2011. The new FZ8 provides an option for those seeking a street-fighter, and the custom chopper-inspired Stryker adds more attitude to the Star lineup.

2012 Yamaha Super Ténéré

Yamaha says:

Yamaha’s proven YCC-T fly by wire technology which is matched to an all-new traction control system, which regulates ignition timing and fuel injection volume based on rear wheel spin. Three rider-selected modes are available to match conditions and the rider’s preference. Also Yamaha’s D-Mode has two settings: “T-mode” for Touring and general riding, giving a softer response; “S-mode” for Sport riding when the rider wants the most performance possible. A two axis primary balancer ensures all the engine vibration is smoothed out for all day riding comfort.

Power is put to the ground through a six speed wide ratio transmission which cruises at highway speeds just as easily as it climbs its way out of a muddy back road. A clean and reliable shaft drive system is used to transfer the power to the hypoid rear gear to ensure everything is as compact as possible.

The Super Ténéré features an all-new steel frame that is designed to reduce rider fatigue during long rides. Using a steel main frame offers the best balance of strength and flexibility, one good at absorbing jolts from uneven road surfaces. The engine is a stressed member of the frame. Locating the crankshaft low and close the foot pegs gives the bike a remarkably light feel, even off road.

The Super Ténéré features a very sophisticated ABS and Unified Brake System (UBS) that work together to help prevent wheel lock during braking. This new system allows the rider to operate front and rear brakes together by simply pulling the front brake lever, especially helpful when riding while standing on the pegs. Applying the rear brake first overrides UBS to provide traditional separate front and rear brake control. Front and rear hydraulic discs are both wave-type for great performance on or off road.

The suspension on the Super Ténéré is fully adjustable both front and rear. The 43mm forks have 7.48 inches of travel and feature adjustable preload, compression and rebound dampening. The rear shock has a unique adjustable pre-load suspension that allows the rider to adjust for varying loads or a passenger with the simple turn of a knob. The rear shock also features rebound-damping adjustment as well.

Nothing stops a good road trip faster than have to stop at the gas station every few miles. The Super Ténéré features a generous 6-gallon fuel tank that allows for long touring with less down time for fill-ups.
We fully understand there is no universal size when it comes to motorcycle riders so the Super Ténéré comes equipped with an adjustable seat height. 1 inch of adjustment provides a low height for shorter riders or a roomier riding position for taller riders in the high position.

Grooved foot pegs show Yamaha’s attention to detail. While the rider is seated, rubber cushions provide excellent comfort. When the rider stands to tackle more technical riding conditions, the rubber compresses, letting the rider’s boots contact the metal foot peg surface.

The 2012 Super Ténéré will be available through a Priority Delivery Program at Yamaha dealerships nationwide beginning in September with customers placing advance deposits of $500.00 and deliveries beginning in May of 2011. The Super Tenere has a starting MSRP of $13,900 and will be available in Blue as pictured as well as Raven.

Features

* The Super Ténéré is built for adventure, with an all-new, exceptionally compact 1199cc parallel twin with a unique 270° crank for excellent torque and traction. Engine mass is kept low for excellent handling. Narrow 2-cylinder inline engine is slim and compact for carving tight lines in twisty mountain roads.
* Wide-ratio 6-speed transmission has the right gear, whether on the open highway or off-road.
* Twin downdraft fuel injection with YCC-TTM (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) delivers optimum throttle control and acceleration. 2-position “D-Mode” (Drive Mode) throttle-response mapping for rider preference.
* Traction control lets the rider get on the gas with more confidence. It regulates ignition timing and fuel injection based on wheel spin. Three modes available to match rider preference, including off.
* Super Ténéré has both an Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Unified Braking System (UBS). With UBS, squeezing the front brake alone also provides some rear-wheel braking; pressing the rear brake first overrides UBS for traditional separate front and rear braking action.
* Whether riding across town or crossing a continent, rider comfort and convenience are important. Super Ténéré delivers, with an adjustable seat height, tunable front and rear suspension, low-maintenance shaft drive, and more.
* Special spoked wheels carry tubeless tires.
* Multi-function carrier system on back is ready for luggage and touring accessories.

Engine:
* The all-new 1199cc parallel twin liquid-cooled engine features a unique 270° crank for superior traction because both pistons fire so closely together. It’s almost like having a big-bore thumper without the uncomfortable vibration.
* Compact engine design uses a dry-sump oil supply inside the crankcase, and side-mounted radiator for surprising narrowness.
* 8-valve cylinder head optimizes the fuel charge for spirited performance. The cylinder head cover is ultra-lightweight magnesium to help centralize mass.
* A two-axis primary balancer smoothes out engine vibration for all-day riding comfort.
* Forged aluminum pistons and carburized connecting rods for durability and performance.
* Downdraft twin bore fuel injection system with 12-hole injectors is tuned for off-road adventures, and is equally at home on long stretches of open highway.
* Proven YCC-T fly-by-wire technology is matched to an all-new traction control system, which regulates ignition timing and fuel injection volume based on rear wheel spin. Three rider-selected modes are available to match conditions and the rider’s preference.
* Yamaha D-Mode has two settings: “T-mode” for Touring and general riding, giving a softer response; “S-mode” for Sport riding when the rider wants the most performance possible.
* Wide-ratio 6-speed transmission has gear ratios optimized for everything from slow dirt roads to higher speed sport riding.
* The low-maintenance shaft drive is clean and reliable with a compact rear axle gear case thanks to its hypoid gear design.

Chassis/Suspension:
* The all-new steel frame is designed to reduce rider fatigue during long rides. Using a steel main frame offers the best balance of strength and flexibility, one good at absorbing jolts from uneven road surfaces.
* The engine is a stressed member of the frame. Locating the crankshaft low and close the foot pegs gives the bike a remarkably light feel, even off road.
* The ABS and Unified Brake System (UBS) work together to help prevent wheel lock during braking. This new system allows the rider to operate front and rear brakes together by simply pulling the front brake lever, especially helpful when riding while standing on the pegs. Applying the rear brake first overrides UBS to provide traditional separate front and rear brake control.
* Adjustable pre-load suspension allows the rider to adjust for varying loads or a passenger. The forks are compression and rebound adjustable and the rear shock is rebound-damping adjustable as well.
* A generous 6-gallon fuel tank allows for long touring with less down time for fill-ups.
* The Super Ténéré comes equipped with an adjustable seat height. 1 inch of adjustment provides a low height for shorter riders or a roomier riding position for taller riders in the high position.
* Front and rear hydraulic discs are both wave-type for great performance on or off road.
* The grooved foot pegs show Yamaha’s attention to detail. While the rider is seated, rubber cushions provide excellent comfort. When the rider stands to tackle more technical riding conditions, the rubber compresses, letting the rider’s boots contact the metal foot peg surface.

Additional Features:
* Handlebar brush guards are standard equipment.
* The optional, flexible luggage system design has three possible set-ups: standard with no top case/side bags, top case installed, and side cases installed. Genuine Yamaha top case and side cases designed for adventure touring are available as accessories. These accessories were included during the design of the motorcycle so as to enhance the look of the bike.
* Body components help direct cooling airflow to critical areas of the bike.
* Both side stand and center stand are provided for complete parking convenience.
* R1 style turn signals and reflectors.

2011 Yamaha FZ8

Yamaha says:

Looking for the motorcycle that does it all with style and performance? Look no further than the 2011 Yamaha FZ8. The FZ8 fills the gap for sport riders who feel a 600cc is too small and a 1000cc is too big. The muscular, naked bike styling gives it an aggressive, mass-forward stance while the comfortable, upright riding position with a compact design contributes to the bike’s first-rate handling. This bike simply excels both in the morning commute and on that spirited weekend ride on a twisty back country road.

The 779cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, inline 4-cylinder, and 4-valve engine delivers smooth power delivery and gobs of torque in the low to mid rpm range. But this engine also lets loose with eye-opening horsepower when the revs climb toward redline. The fuel-injection with 35mm diameter throttle body provides optimum intake efficiency and smooth throttle response with precise fuel/air mixtures for awesome power delivery across the rpm range. The compact, pent-roof combustion chamber has a high 12.0:1 compression ratio with 26mm intake valves and 22mm exhaust valves contributes both to the superb torque and high-rpm power of this engine. The intake funnels for cylinders 2 and 3 are 25mm longer than the two outside cylinders and helps maximize the engine’s punchy torque delivery. The FZ8 inherits proven R1/FZ1 technologies, including forged aluminum pistons, fracture-split carburized connecting rods, and ceramic-composite-plated cylinders. The 68.0mm bore and 53.6mm stroke specifications were carefully chosen to maximize the strong torque characteristics, as was the new crankshaft with optimized inertial mass. The wide-ratio 6-speed transmission has ideal ratios for the engine’s performance character.

The aggressive chassis geometry with supersport-inspired 51 percent front wheel weight bias provides light, nimble handling. A controlled-fill aluminum frame uses the engine as a stressed member and allows for optimal rigidity balance, light weight, and superb handling. The six engine-mounting points help provide superb longitudinal rigidity. A controlled-fill aluminum die-cast swing arm saves weight and is tuned for excellent handling. The 43mm inverted fork and a link-type Monocross shock with adjustable preload provide for light and neutral handling characteristics.

Superb braking power is accomplished via 310mm front discs, squeezed by monoblock four-piston calipers, and a single 267mm rear disc. The generous 4.5 gallon fuel tank, is short front to back, and slender where it meets the rider. The foot pegs and handlebars are also placed for a compact, rider-forward riding position that contributes to the bike’s excellent handling. 5-spoke cast aluminum wheels contribute to the light and neutral handling character. This bike sports a 120/70 ZR17 radial tire up front, and a 180/55-ZR17 rear radial to complete the look and serve up the traction.

The “Mass-forward” naked bike styling is accentuated by the headlight design and FZ1-style instrument cluster which features a great looking tachometer with a white face.

The 2011 FZ8 will be available in dealerships nationwide beginning in December with a starting MSRP of $8490 and will be available in Raven as pictured.

2011 Star Stryker

Yamaha says:

How do you follow up the world’s first modern performance cruiser? With another first, of course... say hello to the all new Stryker from Star Motorcycles. The muscular, forward-lunging look reinterprets classic custom “chopper” styling for the 21st century and features high-end looks without the high-end price tag.

The gutsy 1304cc, fuel-injected liquid-cooled V-Twin engine churns out the inspired, big-engine feel riders will love. Even with its radically raked out front end, Stryker has the superbly nimble and lightweight handling that choppers and mid-class competitors can only dream about. The low seat height of 26.4 inches allows riders to put both feet on the ground and helps provide this bike’s natural, relaxed, and comfortable riding position. The wide 210-series rear tire and chopper-inspired 21" front wheel reinforce the muscular styling of the bike. No cheap plastic fenders here – this authentic cruiser has the real steel fenders customizers love. Classic belt drive, too. Get started on your own customization with a choice of two color schemes with high-quality chrome, or an aggressive looking, blacked out package.

The 80-cubic-inch, liquid-cooled, single overhead cam 60-degree V-twin with dual counterbalancers offers plenty of smooth performance. Computer-controlled twin-barrel fuel injection provides optimal mixture whatever the temperature or altitude with the ignition and fuel-injection maps optimized for Stryker’s performance character. Four valves per cylinder with 36mm intake and 32mm exhaust provide optimum combustion efficiency while roller rocker arms reduce friction for better performance and reduced wear. Ceramic-composite cylinder sleeves contain 100mm forged pistons for excellent durability and longevity. The 9.5:1 compression ratio and aggressive cam timing produce plenty of power across the board. Forged connecting rods ride a single crankpin for true V-twin sound and power while the smooth-shifting five-speed transmission feeds power to an efficient, low-maintenance belt drive. The crafty cooling system routes liquid through hidden hoses and internal engine passages for air-cooled looks and liquid-cooled performance. The oil filter is easy to access but also tucked nearly out of sight for clean, pure looks. The new exhaust system, designed specifically for Stryker, adds to the awesome look of this bike while also optimizing its engine performance. It also tuned to produce a magnificent exhaust note.

Stryker delivers handling unmatched in this mid-size custom cruiser segment. The dramatically muscular steering head so visible on this double-cradle steel frame helps give the bike its lean, lightweight image. The 6° yoke and raked triple clamps combine to provide a total of 40° of fork rake. This achieves the aggressive raked out styling image and solid straight-line performance you’d expect, while at the same time providing light, nimble handling characteristics, even at low speeds. Seat height is low, just 26.4 inches, letting the rider feel in rather than on the bike when riding, and enjoy having both feet planted firmly on the ground when stopped. Steel fenders—rather than cheap plastic fenders found on some competitors—are one of this bike’s authentic cruiser features. Steel fenders are ideal for customizers who want to cut, chop or modify their bikes. Cast wheels have low profile tires. A wide 210-series rear tire and 21" front wheel add to the aggressive attitude of the bike while the large 320mm front and 310mm rear discs provide serious stopping power.

When Stryker is parked, it’s sure to draw attention. Precision machined details abound, like the slit pattern in the headlight and meter. Many metalwork components are hand finished by master craftsmen. The rear fender over the wide rear tire is richly sculpted. It’s clear that this is no run-of-the-mill cruiser.

The aggressive, tough custom styling theme sets Stryker apart. The beefy 1" handlebars connect right to the upper triple clamp for exceptionally clean looks. Instrumentation includes a fuel meter for rider convenience.

The 2011 Stryker will be available in dealerships nationwide beginning September 2010 with a starting MSRP of $10,990 for the Raven model and $11,240 for Impact Blue or Reddish Copper colors.
