Just rode new V Max

Ok girls I'm going to give it to you straight! My friend Frank let me ride his bone stock 08 V Max last night. I own a 08 turbo busa and an 07 14 so I know how a big bike pulls. Down low[ to 5000 rpms}the Max is very strong, more so than the stock 14 or stock busa. After that it's all over...not a big top end rush at all. If you ride it easy it feels like a monster with all that low end torque. But hammer on it and it goes somewhat flat. NO WAY IT WILL OUT RUN ANY LITER BIKES, BUSAS, 14'S,OR EVEN HIGH END DUCATIES 1/4 or top end...With that said it's a wonderful bike and would be great to cruise on. Comfortable, stable, looks good{much bettor than the B-king, although I bet not as fast} and sounds great even with stock exhaust............For 18k it's overpriced but I can see diehard Max owners buying them.

I can't believe you come onto a 14 site and Bash the ALMIGHTY V-MAX. A stock V-maX will yank the paint off your Turbo-Busa. Thats what Bad_Max will say anyway.

Kidding, thanks for the insight. Thats pretty much what I expected from the v-max. That bike does sound good with the stock can.

Same thing i felt when i rode the new Vmax ...But i felt the low end power wasn't as strong as my 09 .... It did feel a little better in the low end than my 06 with flys in ... Flys out on my 06 the zx14 would kill it on the bottom end .. The top end one the Vmax is as flat as a 10 year old girl ..

I have a new VMAX and it wont out accelerate my 08 busa,it also wont out corner my
cbr1000rr,but I think your missing the point of the VMAX. It is a STAR brand
cruiser not Yamaha's new sport bike.I can tell you from the few miles I've put on mine
so far very fun.

BTW... the vmax is not a cruiser. It's a standard/ street fighter/ Naked/ Muscle bike. The OLD v-max (with a hyphen...The way a real v-max should have it's name written) was considered a cruiser because there weren't a bunch of classes back then. Everything was either a UJM (universal japanese motorcycle) or a sport bike. Since the vmax wasn't a sport bike it fell into the UJM class which made it considered a cruiser. The vmax is a nice, but it's 20mph with a tiny tank, and sport tire should tell you that it's not a cruiser. The lack of acceleration should tell everyone else that it's not a hyper bike. It is what it is... And it's very good at that.

Tiny tank yes, sport tires no, it wears 18 inch rubber which means no soft tires will
fit. I agree its not a hyperbike and I wonder why people want to compare it to the
Busa and the 14. My friends all ask how it compares to my busa and I say apples to
oranges. It should be compared to the B-king or maybe the M109.

it should be compared to the Bking, Tuono, Brutale, Speed triple, and Z1000. Not even close to being in the same class as the M109, vrod, warrior, or R3.

The gen1 vmax is one of my all time favorite bikes. I've got one sitting in my garage right now that i need to build the carbs on. I think that it would be a fun bike, but for the money I'd rather have a supermoto AND a 1000... AND some go fast parts for my 14.

I bought the bike for 500 dollars with two sets of carbs both in boxes, a spare corbin seat, a sissy bar with luggage rack, and a set of jardine slip ons. I'm going to eventually get with sean morley. Are you on vmaxforum.net?

I'm not on a Vmax forum, but I can tell ya...........

Pull the caps off the main jets and I bet you find a rusted out sprint and the O-ring out of place. This can even be done w/o taking them off the bike - worth a shot.

Lol... you don't understand. Both sets of carbs are in ziplock bags torn completely apart. I'm talking every jet, grommet, spring... every piece that can be taken off is lol. There's a good howto thread on building vmax carbs, and I have a service manual... but I need to get all new diaphragms and throw everything into a bucket of carb dip for a couple of days before I can build them. After I build the carbs, I still need to put fork seals in it and see if I can find new controls because the ones that are on it now are definitely showing their age and feel pretty brittle. The way I figure, I can have a nice bike for $1000 max. It's going to get a kerker and just be used to make all of the cruiser guys that think that their bikes sound good feel inferior lol.

Anyone think the new Vmax may also use the same technology as the ZX14, meaning it may, like the Rocket III, use secondary fly's. It would not surprise me at all, since this bike is like 200 hp....and if that's the case, there could be more low end grunt sitting in there as we speak. I can't find anywhere where they do or don't mention anything about this --

It has that on the primary plates, or is there a secondary set of plates?

The ecu controlls the plates totally, no throttle cable, drive by wire. I guess they figured it was the best approach after sooo many people got used to taking secondaries out. I think if you want to hurt yourself you should have the right to!
