8 More Horsepower for FREE on your 2007... Click here for instructions *pix*
EPA rules have choked your 2007 6R and cost you horsepower. Here's an easy trick to gain 8 (YES 8) ponies for free... tricking the ECU into the Euro map and unrestricting the bike!
Step One...
Remove your seat...

Step Two...
Locate the black connector under the seat (top left corner of the photo)

Step Three...
Free up the connector...

Step Four...
Expose the wires in the harness....

Step Six...
Using a butt-splice connector, bridge the BLACK/YELLOW and GREEN STRIPE/GOLD DOT wires.

You're done! Go ride!

"You're done! Go ride!"
"Go race!" is an appropriate statement for a ZX6R too

I haven't actually read the article in Road Racing World, but "believe" this was information released at the time of the press intro. The bikes tested (according to my sources) were to represent what would be available to the consumer. Kawasaki, being in compliance with rules, regulations, emissions, blah, blah, whatever.. presented the ZX 6R that you can now currently purchase. I have no idea what the other guys "actually" had or have available, and perhaps it did affect the out come of the Shootout as far as who had the most hp at the time.... However, there are always little things we find here and there flitting about like "butterflies" that step up our rides a notch and give us an advantage over a competitor. (I think it's nice when a manufacturer puts it out there right up front. Even shows you !)
We're not talking big numbers, 7-8 hp? And from what I was told that's on the high end. Most riders will never feel that difference. I on the other hand took mine to the track last week and made damn sure the shift light was working! If there was extra there I found it
I suppose the only way to really know is the dyno. NO complaints here!! I love this bike!!
I obviously have a different schooling for break-in LOL. First 300 vary the rpm, don't load or lug the engine, I kept it under 8 K. after that >>>>>>> C yaaaaaaaa.
(oh ya, oil changes, and sticky tires are good!)
and as far as I know there are much better tricks for ZX14's

A free 7-8 HP is AWESOME! Especially to those of us that enjoy the warm comforting glow of the shift light accompanied by the soft smooth screeching of a 6-engine zooming around a race track!!!
Lo & PK are awesome.

Oh God, here we go again, more shoot-out mayhem ! Hats off to Kawi for sending the bike to this shoot-out bone stock. I've heard too many stories of manufactures (Honda maybe?) that "massage" the test bikes before they get shipped to magazines for review. Blueprinting motors or a little port and polishing does wonders for an otherwise stock looking bike. The article in Cycle News even said they were very impressed with the Kawi 6 at the press intro but, felt the bike they got for their test felt a little weaker. Who knows, maybe the only way to conduct an unbiased test is to buy the bikes from a dealer and test them then. This way the only concern is can we trust the testers to be fair as some testers are sponsered riders. Either way at least the competition between brands has given us some incredible bikes.
By the way when is the next track day ???

All the 600's from the Cycle News article have numbers in line with other 600's tested on the same dyno. So I can say everyone played fair.
The mod to the ECU for the Kaw has been around a while. Most common is to simply put a "jumper" wire between the poles (as Roadracing World showed). It is simple and "free". I've seen this mod add from 2 - 4 hp depending on the year. No more, no less.

This is the first place I saw this mod mentioned....
http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/165/45/
According to that site the mod changes the way the exhaust servo behaves. Supposedly it acts to restrict noise on the US models at the expense of peak horsepower. The link below is to a dyno run graph. They claim an 8 to 9 hp gain, looks more like 2.5hp to me.

Absolutely not....the 6r is the only bike that one can actually do this to. The 10 requires a Power Commander!

Thats the way mine is too. It looks like you want to splice the Turquoise w/green stripe and gold dots to the black and gold. Thats what I'm going to do anyway. I'll let you know what I find out....

yep, I was right. It's the one thats caddy-corner from the black/gold. In my case it was a turquoise wire with a green stripe and some gold dots dabbed on.

well, maybe not. The bike started after I did it, but it won't start now. I took off the splicer in case that was the problem, but it won't start. I'm probably f'd, cause I've been working on it all night.
DON"T DO IT!!!
