renting a 2009 zx14 connie to test ride tomorrow

I own a 2006 fjr and it has 94k on it,,and a 2008 zx14 with 21000 on it,,I recently test rode a bmw k13gt but was really bothered about the gear ratio in top gear,,at 80 mph it was turning 5000rpm,, in top gear the frj goes 97mph at 5000rpm,,in forth the fjr goes 82mph at 5000rpm,,the fjrs 4th gear was taller then the bmw k13 6th gear,,and it had multiply flat spots in the FI,,this was unacceptable to me,,for a bike to cost 25k it just shouldnt be that way,,so i am renting a 14 connie tommorrow,,i read about the handling issues and want to ride it for myself,,how does the connie handle?? will it out handle the fjr??does it handle as good as the bmw??i will probably get the connie after summer,, if i get the connie,,I plan on pulling the flies getting an AreaP full system,,P/C 5,,BMC air filter and add a radiator guard,,and get some pilot road 2s FASTESTBUSAROUND am i forgetting anything,,LOL LOL

Hopefully you get one without Bridgestone tires. Any and all handling problems are attributed to them. They are by far the worst tires that they could have put on this bike.
Make sure they are inflated to 42, if not with the Bridgestones the steering will feel very heavy.
If there are Michelins, the handling will be awesome.
It will out handle all of the bikes you mentioned, and the the thing is barely doing 4k at 80.

Exactly. I wore out my Bridgestone front before I did my rear. Ran a set of pr2's next much better. But just put on Pirelli Angels and so far, wow love em !!

this is a really refined machine,,,this is a bad bike,i got to rent the c14 today,my first 20 miles i was hitting 30mph posted turns at 70 mph no problem,,TedG it has those shitty tires on it too,,,they didnt affect me to much until i was spliting traffic at low speeds,, steering was very heavy,, but overall i got the feeling this thing handled better then my zx14,,,got up to 150mph a couple times,,i didnt hear a lot of cam chain noise on start up,,when you stand next to it while it is idling and listen to it,, it makes the noise of a well oiled precision machine,,,the mill is very smooth,,fuel injection was seamless,,trans was as slick as snott,,and very slight clunking,,excellent gear ratios,,top gear going 80mph at 3800 rpm,,just purring,,perfect ratio,,,clutch is bullet proof,, shaft drive works cherry,, no jacking ,that key thing is a piece of shit,,someone must of bumped there head when locating the mirrors,,other then that this is a true sport tourer,,there is no fuckin way that bmw k13gt is worth $10000 more then this c14,,i want to get the 2010,,but i dont know if i want abs or traction control,,,what do you guys think about abs and traction control??,my thinking tells me all those extras are more things to fuck up,,i went about 200 miles,,going to ride it again tommorrow,,more will be revealed

Make sure the tires have 42 lbs in them. The BS tires don't seem to be designed for a bike this heavy and they need air to help them keep their profiles.

My first C14 didn't have ABS because having ridden for decades I felt I didn't want anything between me and my brakes. BUT and a big BUT I found myself riding in place and at times of year that I would never have ridden a sport bike. Snow, ice, sandy roads, pouring rain, etc. All of the sudden ABS made a whole shit load of sense. So my 09 has it and if I get an 2011 it will have it too. As for traction control, think about an icy or very rain slick road and a big hill to climb. Yep ABS and traction control for me.

thanx for your replies,,i took it out for another ride about 350 miles,,i took it up over 140mph and it got a little squerrilly when riding over painted line or any change in asphalt texture,,i felt that the fjr had more torque in the mid range,,i know the flies need to be removed,,i feel more planted on the yamaha,,and this could be the tires,,i just rebuilt the motor, trans, forks,,brakes,,on the yamaha,,if i get the connie i do all my mods myself,,and i am anal,,it will take a month,,i am going to continue riding the yamaha if it doesnt break,,i have had a lot of problems with the fjr,,thats why i was looking for another bike,i think i have them worked out for now,,,,its been going about 10000 miles with no problems now,,i hope it lasts this summer,,ONE THING I WILL SAY FOR SURE,,,THERE IS NO FUCKIN WAY THAT THAT BMW K13GT IS WORTH $10000 MORE THEN THE CONNIE OR FJR

I would get a 2010 with traction control,,and abs,,the yamaha was good enough for me until i started having real problems,,,at 18000 the rear end seal went out,,oil all over the wheel,,warranty covered it,,at 40000 yamaha changed the ECU on recall,,at 47000 it started popping out of second gear,,they replaced most of the gears with upgraded gears that were undercut and had extra dogs,,it was covered under extented warranty,,this was a common thing to happen,,at 60000 a spider ground in the wiring harness burned up,,no warranty,,i peeled the harness down,,replaced some wires and soldered it up,,at 66000 the cam chain tensioner went,,i almost bent some valves,,i replaced the cam chain and tensioner,,at 81000 i did a track day and blew a piece of the cylinder sleeve out at the top of the cylinder,,never seen nothing like this before,,so i bought an engine off ebay and used the upgraded gears out of my engine,,between the the two engines i built one good one,,after putting it all back together i had fuel injection problems,,i spent $400 on sensors,,now i got it running really good and hope it lasts awhile,,it reads 94k on the speedo,,i think that the fjr and connie are both really good bikes,,i dont see them like apples and oranges,,DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY REAL MILES ON THE CONNIE?? AND HOW RELIABLE IS IT?? DOES THE CONNIE HAVE PROBLEMS??

Well - this is my 3rd Connie - I had an 08 that I put 11k miles on - an 09 that blew the engine 30 seconds after I took it out of the showroom (bad CCT) and now my replacement 09 that I've got 4k miles on. I don't have your mileage on it because I have 3 bikes...my ZX14 being the higher mileage one, and I keep changing them every few years. I can't comment on reliability long term, but my latest one is fine, except I have a ticking valve...which I'm sure only needs an adjustment. I had zero issues with the 08...and absolutely love them. I ride them hard and rev 'em high...and they never run out of power. I see 10K RPM's often in 1/2/34...and I echo everything Ted says about them FWIW.

One would't think too many. they had the first connie for over 20 years without any major changes. Seems they got the 2010 dialed in pretty well.
Oh yeah 33,000 on the 08 till I blew it up.It lived it's whole life banging into the rev limiter.

They said it spun a main. But I am not convinced. I didn't press it because I just traded it for a newer one. The guy who rebuilt it said he didn't need to replace the pistons.
