Kawasaki's new Police Edition Concours14

Kawasaki Concours14 Police Edition

Will your local police department go green? Kawasaki is hoping so with the release of their Concours 14 ABS based Law Enforcement Motorcycle Program. With specs that appear to compete directly with BMW's R1200 based police edition, we're sure there will be quite a few boys in blue requesting their detachment order a few of these.

Here's how Kawasaki describes the new model:

Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. is offering the Concours™ 14 ABS Police motorcycle to U.S. law enforcement agencies. Complete sales and support services are available through the company’s network of more than 1,100 U.S. motorcycle dealers.

Kawasaki will provide post-sale warranty support as well as law enforcement maintenance personnel training. Police unit preparation will be handled through a partnership with Beaudry Motors, Inc.

Concours 14 ABS Police motorcycles lead the segment in safety, acceleration, handling, and braking. All units are delivered with a tighter turning radius and custom law enforcement equipment, including: adjustable speedometer, a second wiring harness with 12 fused circuits and a separate battery dedicated to the add-on electronics installed by Beaudry Motors, Inc. An extensive selection of emergency equipment is available to satisfy agency requirements.

More Capable:
  • The Concours 14 ABS provides significant competitive advantages for law enforcement agencies, compared to the police offerings from competing manufacturers.
  • Available high-performance Traction Control.
  • High-performance ABS brake system.
  • Quickest acceleration in the law enforcement class.
  • Best high-speed handling in the law enforcement class.
  • Heavy-duty 41.5 amp alternator.
  • 441-pound payload capacity.
  • Removable saddle bags.
  • Tough and durable clutch is the least-expensive system to replace in the category.
  • Three-year unlimited mileage factory warranty.
  • Fleet service staff training, plus the authorization to conduct non-warranty maintenance and repairs, on-site
  • Purchasing agencies may also take their vehicles to any Kawasaki motorcycle dealer for regular maintenance, repairs, or warranty service.

Competitive Pricing:
  • Turn-key retail costs vary from $16-$22,000 per unit, depending on model year and level of equipment options ordered.
  • Taxpayers save more than $2,000 per-unit in initial acquisition cost, compared to comparably equipped BMW R1200RT-P or Harley Davidson FLHTP motorcycles.
  • Depending on fleet size, total cost savings to communities, governments, and the taxpayers could rise to millions of dollars, once reduced maintenance and repair costs are factored-in.
  • A complete clutch system replacement—one of the most frequent police unit maintenance needs—costs less than $400 in parts and labor. This represents a savings of several hundred dollars1, per occurrence, and could mean a savings of thousands of dollars over the life of each vehicle.

Kawasaki is clearly the right choice for law enforcement agencies. The Concours 14 ABS out-performs every other available unit in the category, and does it at a price sensitive to tight municipal budgets.

Kawasaki took over the Police market before and they can do it again. That is a kick ass looking bike. The white front fender is reminiscent of the original 1975 KZ900 police bikes.

..."black and white" is the most recognizable paint scheme on "marked" vehicles of for the US law enforcement market...people see black&white and they readily think "police"...don't even hafta read English!!! ..

....there are still quite a few agencies out there who use color, but unless they have visible blue and red lights, they're often mistalkn for private security until their logos and markings are recognized as that of the Sheriff or police...

...hey what's up with the "tighter turning radius",.."high performance clutch"... and "high performance ABS"?...how different is it from civilan versions?... how did they achiev the difference?...I like the top box, too...makes for a tidy rear end...

...what provisions are there for tip-over bars?...I don't think the tax-payers would like to pay for that expensive palstic in the event of a mild tip-over ...unless they operate sportbikes off-duty on a regular basis, some cops are going to hafta reprogram their brains to deal with the rate of accelaration of these beasts ...

...NICE JOB KAWADAKI AND BM.Inc

That cop is only trying to get on even ground with the vehicle attempting evasion IMHO.

Would you rather chase a skillful rider on a new 1000 or on a 700 lbs. fully dressed Concours?

The thing is just to make a point. Having 2 bikes in a high speed chase is twice as dangerous. Motorolas are much faster.

I think they are talking about the competition, not the civilian version.
As you know their last police bike was very, very successful. So it only seems logical that they go into the market again with a truly good motorcycle. A police bike that will throttle wheelie....

Also Kawasaki trains the police garage mechanics so they can perform service. I trained the Reno Police mechanics in 75.
