Does anyone know how the trac control really works?

I was just going through the magazine I got a whil back that a friend borrowed immediatly (before I even read it), about the 2010 modelDoes this system rely on the secondary flies, or is it drive by wire to cut power? I cannot see it using the rear brake to do it, there is too much hp in the motor for that little disc to do much.

Thanks,
Rob

Well, I just watched a video which explained it all. It changes ignition timing, fuel inector spray time, and the secondary flies.... OK, it seems if you remove the flies the usefulness of trac control would be hampered somewhat... Did I ever say I hate flies?!!!

Traction control is usually a timing and fuel thing. The secondary flies are probably too slow anyway and not necessary to do the job. I myself don't like traction control....not as much fun.

Well, I finally got to ride once this year, about 3 weeks ago. What a thrill, power, insane almost, could get me in trouble real quick, but I did fine. On the way back, almost home, I had a hard right turn onto the road before my house, and at about 3000 rpm I just blipped it about half way and still leaned over. WoW what a smokin powerslide, and it felt really natural. The tire just lit up and she slid that way for about 30 feet! Came back to straight and no issue.

Now I don't know If I will ever ride again, just a week ago I broke something in my r/s shoulder real bad, it is really messed up! And then I used my left arm and tweaked that one (not nearly as bad). I can't ride, I am trying to work, but the $5700 ded has me in the I got to sell two bikes mode, I really do not wanna get rid of any, but might have to.....

I just wander if anyone had the flies removed from a '10 and what happened?
Thanks Ted for the reply

Come on bro, I have 2 pins in my wrist and a plate and 6 screws in my arm and I'm able to ride.
That deductable sucks what kind of insurance do you have? I'm guessing you didn't get hurt at work or you would be covered.. Hope things get better for you. Kevin

Thanks Kevin and Ted for the encouragement. It was a rough winter, was really looking forward to this spring and summer until this happened... I did start having a problem less than a year ago with my r/s shoulder, hurt to throw overhand and was cracking and popping, but it is wayyyy worse now. I was lifting a 100 lb log with my right hand when it sounded like you snapped a stick, I just dropped it and was in real bad shape from there on. Sleeping and working is very difficult, I want to ride but know I can't.

I had the mri done sat morning and took it home on disc to look at it on my 'puter, doesn't look good from what I see. Looks to me like there are 2 snapped tendons, one old and 1 new. Now, If I have to have surgery they are looking at 3-6 months healing time which really sucks! There might go my whole summer.... realy with it happened in the winter...

So I will know for sure tuesday morning when I meet with the specialist, what it is and what will happen. I will probably have to sell the klr, and the '03 kx500. I really don't want to sell any, but the deductable is killing me financially. We got the insurance because my wife was laid off in 2003 or 2004, we had good bennies before then, but wanted something affordable so went with a high ded. hsa, it was 4400 then, whick I paid out 2 yrs ago with all my grandmothers inheritance. Now 2 yrs later it's 5700 and am probably looking at having to pay all of it again. So, if anyone is looking for a klr250 or kx500 lemme know :-(

Rob

Damn Rob - kinda sucks right now, but, you hang in there. I've had both knees replaced and was riding 2 weeks after the 2nd one was done last March (it did hurt some). Once you get into the right frame of mind, you'll be fine and will heal fast! You can always get another bike when you're ready. Positive thinking pal - only way to beat the recovery time!

Rob, listen to FBA he is correct...hang in there.
This traction control thing, at first I thought WTF would I need that for? Then it dawned on me, imagine getting caught in snow or ice. Traction control could make just going straight much easier and safer. Or even having to go up a slippery hill.

What if your taking off and there is no traction, will the bike move?

Thanks again you all for the encouragement. I decided to switch Dr's, I am going to Rothman institute in Philly to see the best around, Heck If I have to pay the DeD$$ I might as well get it done right. Not only being able to ride again, but my job depends on this arm. I still work every day but I am in a lot of pain and wiped by the end of the day. Hopefully recovery will not be 6months to a year like I have been told so far. I am going to the new doc on tues may 11th and we will go from there. My bike is on ebay now (the 2003 kx 500) under my name n3szd.

My wife just ran into a problem too and we decided to split the $5700 DeD. which will help me BIG TIME. I just do not want to picture not riding this year after this awful winter.

Hoping for te best, but surgery is NOT an option, this will never get better by itself........

Reguards,
Rob
