After market seats?
Has anyone had any luck with an after market seat. I'd like to get something different, the stock seat is too soft. I have had corbins in the past and I've liked them however they look pretty ridiculous for the 14. I've also seen an oem gel seat on e bay, any thoughts?

I was thinking about the OEM gel seat but they lowered it and to be honest I don't want to lose any leg room, the bars are already ape hangers as far as I am concerned and lowering the seat would exasperate the issue. And I can already stand flat footed at a stop signs.
That being said if you don't mind it being a bit lower, it may be a good alternative, from the pictures I saw, it was really good looking. I think the European Kawasaki site has info on the seat.

No way I could consider my Corbin sporty looking but I have gotten used to it and for me it's an acceptable trade off for the comfort. Yes Ted, I said Corbin Comfort. 
I've also read that the OEM gel seat is not comfortable.
Click the full size tab there for more detail and that greenish dust is pine tree pollen. It sucks and is thick around here for the next couple of weeks. I actually brushed it off just before taking the pics and in no time at all it's already accumulating.

I have a Russell day long on order, April production date so a month or more before I get it. The look with the wings for extra support is growing on me too!

They are only soft enough if you carry your own padding.  Because they are made out of Corbin's special formula of concrete foam.

I see you got the seat in the darker color. Looks much better! Is the feel better than stock or is it just you are getting used to it?
I've been on the road working non-stop since we rode together and can only look at pictures and read the threads until end of March &$@#* (C14 is my only desktop and screen saver). I think I will be glued to the bike seat for my whole time off (only one week the it's back to work). Now I know how the folks in the North must feel with all the cold, snow and rain.
Loved your technical write-up on the fuel map system and the milage thing, but I can't figure you ran sane speeds for the sake of science. LOL

Don,
For me it feels a lot better than stock right out of the box and after about 1000 miles it kind of conforms to your butt. You sit about 1" lower and further back. It does not scoot you forward like the stock seat and the leather is a lot easier to slide around on when you want to than that sticky stock vinyl.
And you wouldn't know it from our experience but I do most of my riding at sane speed. It's just when the sweepers and twisties come around that I just can't resist doing what this bike does so well.

Nice! That is what I am going for the half moon quilting, grey inserts and all leather. Did you rivet or staple? Are rivets worth the extra money?

Gez.....I'm 6'5" and weigh almost 300 pounds and think the stock seat is pretty good. I've got over 5000 miles on it, including a straight through ride from Louisiana to Central Florida without any symptoms of monkey butt. I've tried different seats in the past and some were better than stock, but I can take a little numb butt before I shell out $400 to $500 for what may or may not be a more comfortable seat.
PS - The Russell does look pretty good!

Got the stocker back from Spencer's. He does good work, it's slightly dished out, flatter and a little lower in the front and you can move back a bit more. I would post pictures but you can't see much as he stretches the stock cover before stapling it on after the mods. Also opted for the recommended LD (long distance) gel foam.
I use a charcoal, medium Alaskan Leather sheep skin pad, best $50 I've spent on the C-14.
Can't ride yet and forcasted snow for tomorrow. ;(((

That Russel looks comfy.
Tundra let us know if it is an improvement. I don't want it to be any lower, I think the bars are too high already (damn near ape hangers now) and sure don't want to lose leg room.

I saw that website too Tom, and it looks like he's got a good setup. How much did the seat refurb cost? I'd just like it a little flatter. Like you said, dished out. Just don't want the rear quite so high to get a more level seat. What is the LD option? Was that the tail bone support foam?
I'd much rather start there for a fraction of the cost of a new seat.

Stavee, how do you like the russell? Have you put many miles on it? What's your height and weight for comparison? How much was it? It sure looks comfy, but like anything for a bike, you never know till you put a few hundred miles on it.

I just got my stock seat back from getting it overhauled by Spencer at greatdaytoride.com
I did 350 miles today and it is a ton better. It's much more level so I'm not humping the tank and my lower back pain is gone. It's a bit firmer under the thighs, but the tail bone area is softer too, so no more pain there either. Like Tom, I got an alaska leather med. sheepskin buttpad and that's really nice too. Helps a lot in warm weather, much more comfortable!
For 90 bucks plus 60 shipping, you can't beat a spencer seat mod! It's great and about a third the cost of a new seat!

I was looking through magazines today, and I see Corbin has new luggage and seats for the Connie. Some of them look pretty hot. I dont know if Corbin has them up on their site or not yet. Check them out.

I did not like the seat either when I bought my Concours in June. However after 10000 miles I noticed I am not sliding into the tank anymore. I did 863 miles on it in a day and was fine. The stock seat does break in. I am just glad I did not buy or change anything.

Well I'm happy with the Corbin. The stock seat just didn't breathe enough when it's hot for south Mississippi. My ass would sweat like crazy, make my jeans stick to me, etc. My perforated leather riding pants had some padding so that helped but the Corbin breathes a lot better. I've had a few Corbins and they do break in some after a few hundred miles. I don't think it looks bad but it doesn't look like a sport seat. I got alligator skin texture. Corbin's trunks are nice but so expensive. The big one would even be worth the price if it didn't look so crazy on the bike.
