Zumo 550 GPS on C14...with pictures

I recently mounted my Zumo 550 on the C14, using only the parts that were included in the Zumo kit. I only had to buy (2) 8*50 metric screws to replace the shorter stock screws on the riser base...they are identical to the originals.

I also added the RAM locking screw to prevent the unit from being stolen off the bike. It is fully adjustable to give me the perfect view, although I may consider replacing it with the slicker looking Techmount at some point...

Install took only a few minutes...

The unit doesn't look like it's dead center in these pics, only due to the angle of the shot, but it is.

Total cost of the mount was about $20.00 for the screws and key-locking wheel...

Sweet! I want one, just haven't decided which one yet. Would you like it better if it was lower? And how is the ign switch access?

Access is completely unfettered, look at the picture from the backside angle and you'll see. It can't go lower, because the glovebox has to open. To get it lower, you have to back it up over the switch -- and you wouldn't like that. The height is perfect anyway; it doesn't block the cluster at all.

Fishy; it was free and in the box; it's not as slick as the Techmount, but it works as well. I may still opt for a Techmount on my ZX and my C, purely for aesthetics.

Ted, get the Zumo 550; the only other real bike GPS is the TomTom Rider and it pales by comparison...I know, because I distribute Garmin and have done the TomTom line as well...no comparison.

That was my next question, It sounds like you did the research for me. Actually I was looking at them yesterday at Circuit City. I have a built in Nav in the vette, and the directions display on the HUD. And man am I spoiled. I have a Chevy SS Silverado and I am looking at the Dual XDVD8626 with bluetooth for the phone, XM (hey they have the Led Zeppelin channel) and although not a high end unit the thing with nav and XM is under 700, and there are a ton of other features. So the bike is next. I am just not sure of the mount. I hate to have to take the thing with me each time I get off the bike. It might be cool to build another lid for the glove box that the thing would mount into. Hmmmm.

It is waterproof -- IPX07, which means waterproof for 30 minutes in under 1 meter of water, so it'll never get wet on a bike.
