No way they'd trust dealerships to check rods bolts, would they? I wouldn't want those half tards opening up my engine!
Oh man if they have the low-tech shop boys trying to do anything to the lower end they're going to create more problems than they solve. If I purchased a new S1000R and they said they couldn't give it to me until the shop tore deep into the motor, I'd get a refund or a lawyer. Once the shop chimps tear deep into your brand new bike it'll never be the same. BMW needs to handle this well or its going to just make the 1000 look even worse. Its like they're TRYING to chase customers away

Internet rumours are fun, especially when Bikeland breaks the story and it later turns out to be true. Like the ZX10 debacle....who hit that nail on the head

Germans are so fucking arrogant - it's about time they ate some shit. BMW and Mercedes have their share of junk quality product, in fact, probably worse than Japanase built machines I'd dare say...

BMW has had more recalls on their bikes than most other manufacturers...so why do they cost so fucking much more than the Japanse bikes? Are they better because their German? I think not...

I'll take a good ole' reliable cheap Ninja any day of the week over the 1000rr or any other German built overpriced junk.

BMW has issued a delivery hold and is recalling 1,414 2012 model year BMW S1000 RR motorcycles to inspect and correct a potential problem with loosening of the connecting rod bolts. As a result of a manufacturing process error, the bolts could loosen and fall out. If this happens, the engine may fail, seize, and/or leak oil. Approximately 900 of the affected motorcycles are still in BMW or dealer inventory and will be inspected and corrected prior to customer delivery. Owners of potentially affected motorcycles will be notified by mail in May advising them to bring their motorcycles to an authorized BMW Motorcycle dealer to have the recall performed. The connecting rod bolts will be replaced and installed with a thread locking agent.

Please contact our Customer Relations team at 1-800-525-7417 if you have additional questions

Thanks I should've read back.

Great they are fixing them. Kawi has its share of recalls on new model bikes. When the japs step up to the plate maybe they can:

a) come up with a faster and/or better handling litre bike than BMW or aprilia
b) match BMW's 3 year warranty on their litre bike
c) get their market share back from the euro brands that have been stomping their arses

but the japs can't, thats why so many business article about the euro's taking market share.

my next bike is either going to be spaghetti or sourkraut where the value and performance is nowadays.

haters gonna' hate

Hasn't killed anyone yet. They'll be fixed soon enough anyway, long before Kawi makes a litre bike that keeps up or has a 3 year warranty right

Yeah, but who wants to let a shop monkey take apart their engine. Bet '12 's aren't going to resell so well.

If only you guys knew the REAL truth behind ALL the problems that ALL the OEMs have during production (or shall I say HALTED production) that the public has NEVER ever heard about.....you might be amazed...or not.
I personally would not want any dealer doing extreme engine work on my machine unless the Tech was a pesonal friend that knows what he or she is doing.

Thread locking agent on the rod bolts??.....sounds like improperly made threads....could come back to bite them in the very near future....locking agent is a bandage.
I have NEVER in my 30 years of building engines used locking agent on a rod bolt or nut....for many engines it was the stretch method.

You have a screamer motor that needs to be wound to the tits for power, and it's had camshaft and now rod bolt issues. Talk about the worst of both worlds
Who's honestly going to feel comfortable screaming one around? Not me lol.
Great bike, and its really shaping up nicely in world superbike, but I have to be able to have faith in my ride, and brothers the faith just aint there with the beemer

And BMW took a long over due WSB double in the 1st race and got 1st place in the 2nd race, that is pretty good for a bike that has been recalled because of busted rod bolts.
