I have stopped using some of my diesel forums as there is so much advertising, its a pain in the ass. There are few forums I still use, this and the ZRXOA, are about it, and our local track website. So I guess there marketing ideas arent reaching me.....lol

All I can say to all those that use those sites, boycot them and find a new one that isnt filled with bullshit advertising.

So Fish, been thinking about this thread all weekend and just have one simple question for you:

When did they make you the offer?

They offered something different that I can't get into.

Rest assured, we're not for sale nor are we doing any business with them.

Don't tell anyone I said this too you but... they offered Beans a 2 day riding course so that he could manage to keep up with Krukov on his wee little 636. Not to mention the big fat bastard riding right behind Krukov on the TL1000R, who now has a ZX14.

Just stirring the pot...!

There is definitely a plan they created and executed to position themselves as the doorman for advertising. They've taken the clubhouses and turned them into nightclubs. The members are now the women on 'ladies night'. The tempting bait to get the desperate at the door to cough up whatever they ask in order to get inside and talk them up. I blew up on .ms the other day. A string by some group/distributor for Amsoil announcing his sponsorship and that nomatter what people should always contact them to buy. A member/sponsor chimed in that he'd been promoting their products on there for months. As i remember there was a string promoting their filters and oil and at the time it got blasted a bit as spam. Which i think initially it was.

What ticked me off was Duc Doc or whatever the hell his name was with something to the effect of "Times change, it's a business now they're in it to make money" . I was seeing red, one of those mad moments when trying to type coherently becomes a struggle. VS are opportunistic middle men. They produce nothing as far as I'm concerned and I hope they lose their shirts. It's the guys who create and produce quality tangible products who get my respect.

I haven't been on .ms since that day. Any advertiser on a VS site is on a no purchase list until their associations with VS are ended. Maybe I'm the only one who'll do this but I hope many many more do likewise. The Borg like consumption of communities must be stopped.

who is Krukov?

He's been on here once or twice, he's a close friend and main riding buddy of mine, not to mention one of the main members of PNWRiders.com where Beans resides now. Him and Beans are friends, I'm just an occasional acquaintence. Krukov also happens to be one of there better riders and hosts a good amount of there rides. Just some FYI... more than you asked! lol

I think I'm gonna spend some time on Beansbaxter's site over this next week and 'recruit' some of his guys to Bikeland. Shouldnt be hard once the banners start flying and people start complaining!

Would do Bikeland good to have a decent Northwest contingent since the admins/owners all live just over the border from us.

it strikes me as interesting and a bit disconcerting that half the people posting on this topic are focused on the user experience (specifically all the ads) over the control of content. now don't get me wrong, i hate being bombarded with advertising as much as anyone, especially in-line, popup (all but dead these days thankfully) or interstitial ads. and concerns about having to pay for a membership seem pretty trivial to me too. the real concern here, in my mind, is the thought of a single company owning so many forums, and a marketing company at that. this is likely to lead to inappropriate censorship (that is to say, censoring valid opinions that are contradictory to the advertisers, as opposed to censoring flaming and other garbage). i cringe at the thought of a forum that counts manufacturer X as an advertiser where any post that doesnt say "I love my X!" gets nuked. EVERY company has shortcomings (some much more than others), and trying to hide them thru censorship leaves me disgusted. plus that type of behaviour just means u end up not trusting when someone says X is great, because it could be a coerced opinion.

in short, this trend of VS buying forums draws a very strong parallel to the dangers of state-controlled media (tho obviously much less serious). that really worries me.

Yeah we are aware of that frEEk, but thats a really dead simple problem. Guys like me just leave the minute censorship is exhibited. No questions asked, clean cut. We find somewhere else to go. Now ads placed in annoying areas or too often/blatantly, thats something that doesnt necessarily take away from the gist of a good thread. It's just an annoyance is all. In our lives of mass media bombarding us we learn to ignore it more or less everywhere. Not to say we are New Yorker hardened to it, but its not the same as any kind of editing. We will just stick around, bitch, and threaten to leave when it gets too bad. lol

Leaving online friends behind is not something most of us would do to easily, though that doesnt mean we are open game to any money generating ideas you come up with fellas!

Consider it my mission then! There sight sucks anyways. Can you believe no SMACKHOUSE?!?!?! lol Or emails for PM's or postings.... Yep, this place rocks Fish. Only thing better would be combining it with an internet porn site.

On that subject, though, (not the porn subject, I'll PM you for those ideas) how about a section for videos or video links?
