600 mile report...

Power is on strong! Handling awesome... 4 stalls in 600 miles... in for its 1st service... stalling to be addressed... more interested in kbryant getting one in on our dyno to see what's really up with the fueling... any stalls should be addressed by a pc3 if not from simple adjustments under warranty, really not an issue.

Finally used to the brakes... did I mention the handling was outstanding? Bike easly trumps 10R, 14, Busa, 12 etc etc yadda yadda in acceleration, hands down! Rode back to back with 07 6R and Gixxer... hey.. where's the throttle on those things?

Screw horsepower... got torque??

torque article.... good read

Testing some super shiny bits from speedymoto.com .. very nice initial impressions.. more to follow... waiting on more stuff to check out...

still need a way to pack a month's worth of stuff on this bike for a summer's flogging... I'm all ears on thoughts on saddlebags... (high volume)

oh.. fuel mileage is up...

oh... chicks dig the bike... everyone looks to see what it is... bike is hot.

oh... on hot note... area under seat is so hot is melted the ziplock bag my insurance papers were in.

-more to follow.

I'm actually thinking about having the valves adjusted in the 600 miles service with the other "normal" bits. I hear that makes a hell of a difference on some Ducati's and costs about 300~400 bucks. I'm also probably going to get the MPL Clutch Slave Cylinder put in at that time. Then I'm going to wait to see what the best after market exhaust/PC-IIIr combo turns out to be toward the end of the summer .

? please tell me you're joking!!

Anyways... all's done and up to snuff .. amazing I managed to get the bike up past 600 miles (just over 1000km for the canookians).. since I've been out of town for pretty much all of the last month ++ ... definitely looking forward to the summer.. .bike is really easy to ride and was no prob racking up the miles in the few days I had free from work/travel to get out on it! Ergos very very close to 04 ZX-10R and more comfy/room than the 06-07 10R.

Not joking Fish! I hear the valves from the factory are... err... well lets just say it pays to adjust them at the 600 mile mark

AHAHAH I did Fish. Actually both Bend Euro and Salem offered to do the standard service (1 hour) just like in your article. I'm just PARANOID about my breakin. I kinda "lugged" then engine a few times... so I'm hyper paranoid about the valves etc. . I think it stems from the fact that I'm not used to riding such a buzzy twin sport bike. I figure the extra greenbacks on a valve check is really the price for my stupid paranoia.

Why would you be paranoid about anything? The bike is fully covered by a two year world-wide warranty. If anything goes wrong, DNA will fix it no charge. Save your money and buy me a beer.

Sounds like that v-twin magic is working for you. Rode with guys with an aprilla, duc 916 and 998, none accepted my invitation to ride my latest greatest jap mount (translation;I don't wish to reciprocate) Have always been captivated by that gutteral v-twin cadence. Maybee time to take the leap. I have always been a prisoner of the empirical, objective spec sheet, but as i've gotten a little older, realized motorcycles are as much subjective, emotional and viceral (not that the 1098 loses out on the spec sheet) Just seems that the 1098 is one of those "transcendent" machines.

you got it 10r. This is my first duc and she's AMAZING. Faster than my slightly pimped out 12 (176 RwHP on the 12 btw) and cooler in every way. 2 years fish? Hell man I have 5 years =). I plan on keeping this baby....

dood... the bike will be fine.. I'm trying to point out to you that you're falling victim to the reverso marketing of the peeps tryuing to claw back money from you...

look... would you buy a Yamaha with a genesis engine and decide to do extra maintenance on the valvetrain just because??

Good point . I just want my baby to live a long and healthy life - AND I want to produce as much power as I can. I'm waiting to see what people get on the various new exhausts that are coming out (with a power commander)... I wonder what this engine is really capable of? I've got the termi cans for now (they are amazing) but a full Ti system might be nice... and a trip to the dyno...

I'm still waiting on an areap full system.

why not check your valves later if there's actually a problem/reason to check 'em?
