I do it all the time at my shop.
For me the whole process takes only about an hour.
I use a hack saw. I start by drilling the rivets out of the inlet side of the can.
then pull the baffle and can apart. Then I wrap the can with masking tape to mark where im gonna cut and helps to keep the cut clean. Then I measure how much can I cut off and cut the baffle down to the right length.
Next is the tricky part of marking the holes for where the rivets go. Use the holes in the inlet cap for reference .
Use a rivet gun and the right size rivets to complete the job and thats basically the whole process in a nutshell.

I have a bunch of pics of carbon fiber cans I have done but of course I can't find one when I want it lol.
But the aluminum cans and stainless are the same to cut down.
