Zip Ties For Hose Clamps?

Ya, I already know this is iffy. I have all the water hoses off and the stock hardware including hose clamps probably weighs about 1/2-3/4 lb. I'd like to eliminate that. WIll zip ties work in place of hose clamps? Obviously they would need to be replaced every few thousand miles to be safe. Has anyone tried this?

All the hardware weighs 10.15 oz. Everything goes back except the abrasion protectors (which BTW causes abrasion) and the steel coil spring slinky thingamabob.

Zip ties bite into the hose, I hear...this is not worth the risk of taking a superheated bath in engine coolant.

Maybe a plumbing or electrical supply store would have cable ties heavy duty enough with a metal locking tab. May actually work provided you used the cable tightening tool my friend had though I don't know the real name of the tool. Grabs the tie and torques back against the locking mechanism. You can tighten the shit out of a cable tie using it.

Hi All
Have had good results using stainless zip ties on coolant hoses on bikes and cars.
Take a look at these http://www.partex.co.uk/stainless.html.
You do need the tensioning tool to get a good fit.
Never had a problem with them cutting into the hose unless over tensioned.

Thanks, fish and max. I had considered using those. They were online from Home Depot. I decided not to try them because it seemed like they are more or less permanent. Once the strap is pulled into the catch, there's no way to undo it. I guess you'd need to cut the clamps off with a dremmel if you wanted to remove the hoses. I may try it some day to see how it works with my old OEM hoses. Samco is supposed to be making a set of water pipes for 06-07, 08-11, 12-present ZX-14. I'll be getting a set.

Samco was aiming for December so They may be available now. I was going to donate my OEM H2O pipes for them to copy but there were a # of problems that came up. They would not believe me that 06-11 are all the same set of pipes. Turned out there is one difference, the large hose on the right was updated on the 08-11 but still, the updated hose would certainly fit on the 06-07. They also questioned if the ZZR was the same as the ZX-14. From the parts fiche, it looks like the 2012 -2014 14R hoses are all the same asthe Gen1 except for one of the small ones. They had to investigate that matter as well.

I would have had to ship my hoses insured to the UK which would have made the free set of Samco hoses they were offering me fairly costly. The Samco guy I was talking to said they would announce a special price at zx14ninjaforums (haven't heard from him yet). In the meantime, I just Plastidipped my hoses orange. Looks great. No idea how well it will hold up.

lol-- the hoses you see on mine cost about thirty dollars! base coat of white PlastiDip and standard aerosol orange sprayed over wet coat of Blaze Orange. Came out a little bit redder than my other orange on the bike but close enough for me. I covered them all with a coat of PlastiDip Glossifier. We'll see how well it holds up to heat over time. I noticed a little blistering in the crook of the large V shaped hose. It went away when the bike cooled down. I expect there will be some cracking of the finish eventually.

When/if Samco ever gets their ZX-14 hoses made, I'd imagine they'd cost about $350. Complete sets for other bikes with fewer hoses seem to be sell for around 300. A complete set of OEM hoses would probably be outrageous. I looked on Bikebandit and many of them are $60-$80/piece. ...and they're plain old black.
