Still happy with old bike?

I bought my zx14 in 2006. I have it pretty much exactly the way I want it. So, after seven years, I am still very happy with it. It has been a great bike and pretty much bullet proof to this point.

I guess my point is that the new zx14r is nice, but as happy as I am with my current 14, I can't justify spend $15k for the new one. Does anybody else agree with me?

Just things I think about when I am polishing the chrome wheels and exhaust system and waxing the bike, I guess. Mine looks cleaner than bikes that sit on the showroom.

BTW, Blue Magic Metal Polish and Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax are truly amazing products!

I'd like to have a 14r for stock wheelbase bike, but I think I will wait a couple years and pick one up for a little more than 1/2 of sticker price

What do you guys think?

The original is still a great bike. My 2006 went through the speed traps at over two hundred mph nine times but that was in 1.25 miles.

My 2013 bike has done the same nine runs at over two hundred but this time in a standing mile. The new bike is stronger.

No doubt the new bike is making more power....I'm just still happy with the Gen 1. Plus, most people can't ride these bikes to their full potential anyway. I have probably 200+ runs on my bike at the dragstrip and I still have not ridden mine to is absolute full potential.

And trust me, there have been a few 2012's out there that back up my previous statement about riding to full potential. There have been a few pretty disappointed zx14r owners thinking that they would make a sub 10 second pass their first time out. Then they get even more frustrated when they see me running 9.20's all day...

Takes a lot of skill...you know...

I hear ya. I am keeping the 07 for that very reason, even tho I got the 2013. 07 is in race trim and honestly.. it's usually way more bike than I can use most of time anyway. Still... this 2013 sure has me excited.

I'm still happy with my 09 Monster Edition 14. The extra power is nice from the 14r but I can easily modify my 09 to run with or exceed the power levels of the 14r with bolt on's. As a matter of fact, I'm planning just that. Gotta go see Jim @ Comp CNC soon.

I've got an 08 14 with 13k miles on it and basically just staying away from riding a 14r so I don't get the bug to need one. Even though my bike is finally exactly how I want it!

I really like Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax , leaves the black in a really nice almost mirror like finish.
+1 for the Gen 1

What she looks like after a wax and polish with Meguiar's:

I too am fully satisfied with my 09 ZX14 SE, even though I have not explored the full potential of this awesome machine, I am quite content with it. I also agree with indynic. Most that had the GEN 1 never explored the full potential of their bikes before jumping to the GEN 2. (Costly mistake) However, to each his own, rest assured I am planning to add some more bolt ons to my mine to compete with the ZX14R as well. So in time we will see what the results are. Good post

I am glad some people agree with me. With all the 14r talk, seems like the gen 1 is getting all forgotten about!

That zx11 is a '96. Lost it a couple years ago...still wish I had it. Might just buy another one of those for a stock wheelbase street bike. Damn good bike and fun to ride....

I love my 07, 10,000 miles on it. Still has original battery! I would love a new one but how much more power do I need for the street. I am happy with what I have!

Me too. I love my 07, only about 1600 miles...so its still new to me. I never really touched it as far as mods go until this winter. Did a bunch of little stuff...but it added up quick. And of course my rear passenger peg delete brackets which are awesome.
