1bad youre exactly right. but my thinking is getting a conversation started and information sharing we atleast have some sort of starting point. right now not alot of info or sharing .

i'm not trying to stop nothing more info the better.. i know very few people get these clutches to work and give up to soon then they blame the clutches for lack of instructions or what not .. big part is don't give up and more TNT .. i've been playing with them for 3 years now and can't just put a perfect set-up in right off the bat.. but i do the hand clutch slider mode. works like a stock clutch riding the pits then slips on launch.. but i can throw the clutch at idle and hold the front brake and bike won't move until i wack the throttle.. my air gap is around 80 and i use the mid green springs under the hat and blue outside . almost everybody around here that races have 1 these style clutches ..hays, rock ,mtc, gann

this 1 the local guys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=latKMfLF1Kc leaving on a turbo bike with a rocksolid clutch .notice how high the rpm is and the 2 step . but turbo's are a whole differant critter with these clutches

Thanks for that video!
Tim sent me a clutch tune for my specific setup and I was very impressed. Hays has a clutch tune tool on the web site. You can give all the specific info of your bike and he will send you a tune to get started. I've seen Bob from The Rock Mfg at the track and he works some magic for people with his clutch by watching them run. And he also gives advice on your chassis setup. A really great guy in person. I plan on trying his clutch also because the rest of my buddies have it.

i agree with you. wasnt implying you were trying to stop a discussion. i know you have alot of knolwdge. thats what we need is more people sharing info to help us all out. i know its not a one set up fits all. but at the very least it could give someone a starting point. which is more than i could find when i started looking for help.

Bad Let me see if i read you right? Your running static springs under hat (like a multi ) and run springs on top of hat(slider springs set up ) and no arm springs? Wanted to keep this thread going....

you are correct .. i hold 3 arms back with the 20lb hold back springs with weight to lock at 7000rpm or so .. and then 3 arms with no springs with weight on arms to make static on pack until all 6 arms are in at 7000 rpm.. i'm able to ride in the pits and return road like a regular clutch with this set-up and not have to wack it like a slider to get rolling .. its has just enough static to roll when letting the clutch out and when i apply rpm to motor i can feel the clutch lever getting pulled out my hand to launch with.. when i ride the street all i have to do is back the outer hat nuts off so the inner springs apply more static to clutch for street riding

Very slick idea . I haven't heard or seen that set up anywhere before. Got to be easy on plates as it only slide's aggressively on throttle yet not jumpy on return road. Even in multi, the Hayes is notch y on return road if you have it loose enough to actually leave like it should with conventional spring configuration for the Hayes ! Kool Idea.

it will work but you will have to have the gear on the basket changed. the 06-07 has a diffrent gear on the clutch basket than the 08-11. mtc charged me about $130 to switch out the gears.

wanted to give this old thread a bump since im close to having the clutch dialed in now. air gap .045, 4grams on each arm, 4500 stall speed. bike is 72wb. bike is sliding out good now and staying planted. track conditions wasnt the best yesterday. 60ft wasnts great due to hazing the tire thru 1st gear but 330 picked up a tenth. i think at a good hooking track this set up will work good.

how do you measure air gap?

first you measure the steped lip on the inside the slider hat. mine is .030. next measure the height from last clutch plate to top of the basket. mine is .075. now subtract the .030 lip on the hat and that gives you an air gap of .045.

just to update. been to a couple good hooking tracks this past week. clutch still needs a little more tweaking. still wanting to wheelie about 30-40 ft out if you slam it out the gate. but it has been cutting my best 60ft and 330s ever. going to make a slight change to the clutch before this weekends race at dunn benson. hopefully hit that 1 teen 60ft im looking for.
