Gearing question for land speed
Alright,
I know I have probably exceeded my limit for newbie questions this month... but..........
I'm going to have my tires installed and balanced and will be ready to get the bike finished and ready to race......
Can you tell me what gearing have you had the most success with at high speed LSR one mile-1.5 mile events? I looked at the Gearing Commander and figured a couple of choices. Either -2 in the rear or +1 in the front. I don't want to have too much gearing that will get me shifting before the power curve, but I don't want to end up short. This is of course the 2012 model, stock engine, Brocks CT meg, Brocks map, 190/55/17 rear, modified rear fairing, D.I.D. chain and Driven rear sprocket. I do have the re-flashed ECU. I weigh about 200 lbs unsuited but will be low in bike with a modified seat.
I figure I can probably exceed 201mph (Texas Mile) but would like to have enough incase I end up a little faster. My thought is a 40T rear would give a nice balance but not positive.

Shane should come along soon and give you gearing. Listen to him on that aspect.
but a lil tip: "probably exceed 201..." is sure possible w/a 200hp bike, but by no means a given.
You are gonna have to ride the balls off it every inch down the mile to get 200.
IMO,
- gear for 205+/- at the rpm of yr hp peak, (like joseph says, i always use about 4% "slip")
- get outa the hole as hard as you can,
- twist the throttle as fast as you can,
- take it close to limiter at every gear change ESPECIALLY on the 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 where the drop in rpm is large,
- be very aware of yr tuck, crawl into the paint, helmet chin just off the tank,
- full tuck by mid 1st gear, stay there,
- stay on the left 1/3 of the track as you pass the finish (no dip),
- do not be braking hard when you go over the start of the "new" asphalt,
- pray for no side/headwind
What color is yr 14R?
I'll be gimping around the pits drinking beer and would love to see you hit 200 on yr 1st event!

Make sure you don't over-gear the bike. If your target is 201 you will exceed that on stock 17/42 gearing with your reflashed ecu if it's the version with the red-line raised 500rpm (to 11,300). I calculate it will do 206.6 like this.
-2 at the rear gets you to 217 at 11,300 or 207.4 at the factory-set redline.
+1 at the front gets you to 218.8 at 11,300 or 209 at the factory-set redline.
I would go for -1 at the rear which, with your reflashed rev limit, would give 211 at the engine rev limiter. These numbers do not include any slippage and of course it all depends on the conditions at the track on the day. Good luck.

Hi Karl, I went over 200 nine times on the runway at Woodbridge with the 200MPH club but it was longer than the measured mile, about 1.25 miles I think, so it doesn't count.
I can see it's up to date with our Jo Stevenson as the fastest woman and also my buddy Mike Grainger. Nice list.

I know both Ken and Jo. (It's her birthday today by the way). Trillium sent Jo a nice message on facebook after her run and she got some good publicity in the UK newspapers.
