How are the ZX14s holding up against the ZX14R

Just a quick question as to what are you all thoughts about the Zx14 holding up against the 14R? More specifically a heavily modded 14 bored/stroked money wise to be placed on the same platform as the 1441 ZX14R. I know this question may have been asked but I thought I'd bring it about once again to find out if those owning the ZX14 are getting any positive results in more HP or performance over the ZX14R? Serously interested in your responses.

if you have motor work on the old and stock of the new, the older is faster, even a SS headed old 14 will run with the new 14r both mack around 200 hp just my 2 cents and I have both

We're running competitive times against what I've seen posted by the 14R guys with full bolt ons and we're stock internal with an Adams head, degreed cams and all the regular bolt ons. Now, if you just look at dyno numbers we're still down 25 or so horsepower compared to what you see Brock posting on his bikes but we run similar times at the track.

According to what Rich and I saw at Ohio older ones need about a 30 shot, which is still cheaper than replacement.

30 shot for me on the gen 1 ran mid 8.50s @ 163.. Gen 2 ran 8.47 @ 162.60..

Pretty close with a 30 shot ... But my Gen 2 carrys about 20 pounds more weight ..
For me i hate spray and like to run all motor , so the Gen 2 makes me very happy ..If i ever add spray ( i might add a 30 shot ) Bye bye gen 1 ...

JSmooth, there is really little difference between the 14 in the 14R when you start going into the motor. Basically, Kawi added a 4 mm crank, and a little bit bigger cams, nothing you can't do with your old bike. I guess the only real difference between the two bike is the taller block, which allows you to run a three rings piston instead of two. For a little extra trouble this could be done on the gen 1, but when it comes to drag racing the third ring is not a big plus, and the gen 2 adds about 15 pounds to the bike. I guess it comes down to this, if you intend to only put bolt on, you're better off with the 14R. but if you intend to get serious and don't mind going into the motor. You'll come out financially, way better with a gen 1. the cost in parts to make your gen 1 a 2x4 1500cc or a 2x5 1530cc or a 3x5 1560cc is about $2,500 in parts.

My 07 with a port job degreed cams and 47's is a little over a tenth slower than the best 14R. 8.59 VS 8.44. But i only have about $1500 invested in engine work. I have also lightened the bike with Catalyst Pro Street body work.

And there is the difference .. I can ride mine to Calif and back to FL .. Mine being a true street bike .. I guess you could do that with your bike also but i don't think it would be much fun ..

Mine still has stock bodywork and Dave rides it all over the place. Rode it a couple hundred miles today on 87 pump gas before hitting the track tonight. It's not quite as quick as Lee's bike though but does run the MPH or a tad more in fact in the 1/8th. Haven't hit the 1/4 mile yet with the 160 pound rider but ran 155 with a 240 pounder. Lee's bike is faster, quicker and newer. But the old school dinosaur isn't all that far behind. Just my experience comparing the two.

My '09 with an Adams head, 47's and pipe will run the same numbers as a 14R with bolt-ons in the mile.

Since mine has stock non-degreed cams, pistons, etc., it's my everyday streetbike, it idles and rides like a stocker. Nothing to wear out.

The R's are the real deal and are better streetbikes but for the money I'm perfectly happy.
