Racers tell me what you think about this ..

We have a all bike race coming up in a few weeks at our 1/8 mile track .. The track prep will be poor at best ( little or no VHT ) .. They are making it an index race , classes will be 5.50 6.50 and 7.50 indexs ... My bike can run the 5.50 class no problem if the track can hold it , BUT i will have to run Bar bikes with slicks and delay boxes .. If i run the 6.50 class it will be mostly street type bikes .. No way can i slow down to run the 7.50 class , So that class is out .. So that leaves me with the 6.50 class ..

Here is what i'm thinking , Put the bike in low power mode and run the 6.50 class.. I can leave soft and not worry about hooking and cutting having to cut low 1.30 60s .. Maybe even run the bike in low power mode plus run it in T/C 1 or 2 mode .. I have never tried the low power mode but i have tried the T/C in all 3 modes ... Anyone ever try the low power mode at the track ? And if so what did it run .. Anyone have a clue what HP the bike makes in low power mode ?

I can also lower my auto shift if needed , I'm sure 11.200 is going to be to much and i'm not sure it will even get to 11.200 in low power mode ... I guess there are a few ways i could do this and still have a tenth or two tenths in backup if i needed .. I'm only going to get one test and tune night before the race to find out what works , so if you guys got any ideas chime in ..

Lee, others on here will disagree but when I load up and go to the track I'm running a class I can make money in, that's why in 4 outings this year I'm 1100.00 in the green after expenses which I don't think is bad with a street bike. with that being said I have not ran my bike in full power yet but have still went 10.03 in 3000 feet of air. keep in mind I'm 190 unsuited and my bike is stock, height and all running 42 psi in the rear tire half a tank of fuel. in F1 I run 6.60's at 115mph with 1.77 to 1.79 60 foots shifting at 10,000. In L1 I run 6.80's at 112 with the same 60 foots and shifting at 10,000. by shifting at 11,200 I will run .10 quicker in either power mode. I would be in the 6.50 class if I was you and put your bike in the winners circle. I know the drag bikes here in our 5.80 class go .400 to .410 every single pass so unless you have shitty box bikes in your area you will get drilled in that 5.50 class.

Looking around on the web i found the low power mode is 75% of full power .. That means a 25% loss in power or a loss of 50 HP.. So the bike should be making around 150 HP give or take a few HP .. My ZRX was making right at 145 to 150 HP and ran 6.00s .. The ZRX 1200 was just about the same weight or within a few pounds of the ZX14R .. So in low power mode i should be able to run 6.00s , still a half second faster than the 6.50 index .. If that is the case when i test the bike next week i will still have to play with shift points to slow the bike down a bit more ..But i'll have a half second in the Bank if needed .. If the track is shitty and i'm sure it will be i may be able you use the T/C to keep the bike hooked up .. Hummmmm..

I know Teddy will have his bike in the 6.50 class .. With his low powered motor he runs 6.20 and 6.30s .. All he has to do is lower his shift point and he should be on the money .. Problem for Teddy is he is still going to have to leave hard on a shitty track and he does have spinning problems even on a good track at times .. With my T/C i should not have to worry about spinning the tire or wheelys for that matter .. With the right shift point and T/C on i should be able to hook no matter how hard i leave the line .. All sound good on paper ..lol ...

We always did it with a mid track two step on a timer. Ride full power and ket the two step do the rest. Works really good for index racing.

Good luck Smokin, will be anxiously following this one. Bently, maybe you and I could talk later, the mistress of finance really doesn't want me spending any more money on the black beast this year and I'd really like to get it out to the strip.

No problem, I've had a ton of fun racing this year and have spent no money on the bike to do it.I did just install slip ponds but have not been back out yet.

This means we need to be at TnT this week and next to get dailed in. Wonder if I could run the 7.50 class with my Electra Gluide? LOL

its easier to run the 7.50 class on your ZXR than it is to run the 5.50 class ... i'd enter all 3 classes as long as i can run the number ..

My .02 is that I wouldn't beat on my bike to race on an unprepped track. I stopped going to my local 1/8th mile track for that very reason. When you are riding a consistent 5.80's bike, it really sucks to get drug by a bike that runs 6.50's, lol.
