Plugs
Okay....I'm 'trying' to do things a tad different with my 14R....maintenance wise.I bought a set of the factory(for the 14R)plugs.7500 miles service has just slipped by....I'm at about 7800.
ANYONE know how to replace these plugs on here?I know the book talks about it...but I really wanted some 1st hand experience here.Naturally I assume they're virtually no different than switching out on my 07...BUT(one never knows...wasn't much room on my trusty 07).....Thanks all!
BTW...Superstore has em for like 8.99 a pop!Good deal......(I thinkLOL!)

From looking at the shop manuals for the 14 and the 14R, I would follow Rook's tutorial.
Thx for the tip on Superstore!

Plugs at 7500? That sounds way early to me. My speed triple went 20k on original plugs with no visible wear. Plugs go 100k in cars!

Should be 'interesting' anyway...my bike has developed a teensy bit of vibration....barely there...but I CAN feel it.And the bottom end takeoffs....from slow 1st(very) to the second gear shift feels a tad bit.....unsmooth if I could say it like that.(engine performance/throttle).We'll see.Could be....????
I regularly clean my chain w/kerosine,then relube with Chain Wax....and adjust if needed....so it's not the chain doing it.Sprocket(s) are fine.Just changed oil to Motul 7100 full syn(10/40)....so it's not the oil properties either.I also checked the air filter as well...about 2000 miles ago...it was fine.(gonna order one as soon as I see what these plugs do).
I fully expect the plugs to look excellent.I am curious though why Kawasaki says to replace at 7500 miles?Any ideas guys?

Vibration? Check your fairing bolts, a couple of people were talking recently of finding loose fairing bolts on their 14R's.

Bolts are all good.Could be a front tire...that Angel's been on there for TWO rear tire changes. They'll only take so many heat cycles.Only 'loose' bolts on mine were the ones holding the meter bracket...tightened em up a couple times...doing fine now. They weren't like 'falling out' loose, but took a half turn or so.

IDK....They're NGK...so I don't know how much profit they'd make off those plugs...I guess....maybe work hours or something?Gonna Google this and see if there's an actual reason for it....
Well...I did google it....got a really good write up about it...HERE...on another post in the past(somewhere).....cool...I probably WON'T change them immediately.....least I'll have emLOL!!!!

How much is labor rate nowadays? Back in 94, last year I ran a service shop for a dealership in NY, labor rate was $75.00 an hour. That was my last year in the business.

The new 14R, at least from looking at mines when i had all the plastics off, has alot more crap in that area where one has to work to replace the plugs..It will be interesting to see how much more work it will be on this one, by the way i'm past 7500 miles.

Ya...that's what I was wondering...if anyone had done this already.I had my plastics off...but I didn't really take a look around those plugs.I'm gonna change em myself....and as for labor...Kofla...my "ex" shop charged 70 an hour.Been a long while since I've been there...
IDK what my mech would charge...probably nothing like that. He's very good with my bike(s).
