The one on the left is a MAC brand valve. They are notorious for coil and piston problems. I should know because I have changed hundreds of them.
Well that might answer a few of my problems .. Looks like cheap parts to me ..

wonder why Matt went to that version. I hope someone is letting him know about this thread. He could be of assistance in getting your shifter sorted.

NO he will not help me .. I already gave him trouble about his wiring and kill box .. To his credit he refunded me most of my money so we are done ..

Lee, the one on the right is only one I've ever used. we used a 90° eighth each pipe fitting, with a adapter on the end so you have two males, 90° and screw it straight into the RAM. This allows the air pressure to be right at the RAM when it fires.http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h253/lucky_mcse/Air%20Shifter%20-%20ZX-14R/RamComplete.jpg

Thanks Ken .. I have seen that done on a few bikes .. Seeing that i'm making some changes to the system i'm going to do it that way also ... Like you said it should hit faster and get ride of some of the extra line at the same time ..

Matt used to use the one from Grainger, not sure why he switched to the other one. I have a buddy that has been having the same issues as you, and he has one of the blue valves also. I will have him check it out.

I think that you've found it.

The solenoid (air valve) from Grainger is that one that several of us use with great success.

That said, if you look at Schnitz's site, it is considered the "Junior" model. They also sell the "Pro" model (for use with the larger Ram), so the one you are about to change to should probably be considered a minimum.

this is gonna sound crazy but mine is set at 95psi and never misses a shift. sitting in the staging lanes somebody pointed out my low pressure. Well, that made me worry so I changed it to 125psi and it wouldnt autoshift. dropped the pressure back down and started shifting again. To answer the next question, I have a small gauge teed into the valve which is plumbed on the ram.

Yes , i have the New larger Air Sfift valve installed ... Seems to hit much harder that before and i can hold the button in and the ram stays out ... With the other air valve it would hit and release even if you held the button on ..

May try our 1/8 mile track next Weds night IF it will stop raining here ..

FYI I had the same problem a year or so back and there was trash in the solenoid, I took it apart cleaned it and it was back to working normal. (Just my 2 cents)

This air valve was bad from day one .. I did pull it apart before tossing in the trash after a good beat down with a big hammer ( video to come ) , it was clean inside .. It was just a cheap air valve ..But thanks for the 411 ..

IA lot of the pneumatic equipment I worked with had problems with the low voltage MAC solenoids. I prefer Parker or Asco brands personally.
