Has Anyone Seen This Before?
Out racing this past weekend and the #2 cylinder quits. No strange mechanical sounds. Get it home and pull the plug. Here's what I found. There are no impact marks at all on the ground. The ground just rolled over and caused a very small gap so the ground never hit the center electrode.
Background info. Competition CNC SS head. 50 shot of nitrous on a progressive controller. Bike ran great thru the entire pass. No over-rev. Noticed the poor idle when I made the hit the return road. Has anyone seen this before?

..you got your money worth from your 50 shot and CNC head ..cause air didn't cause that

1bad - That's why I'm asking. There are zero impact marks on the ground. If something came loose and hit it, there should be a mark on the ground and on the piston. Looking down thru the plug hole, there's no mark on the piston either. Gonna do a compression check and borescope the hole and see if there's an issue.

Kawjockey - Quite possible on the detonation. There are no marks on the piston or plug from an impact. The other plugs are a light tan color. Gonna check compression and scope it. If all looks good, I'll put fresh plugs in it and see if I can get it back on a dyno.

i doubt you'll see any impact from that light of a tap.. but something touch it
just think when you drop a plug and close the gap it leaves no mark

Well...finally got back to the bike to figure out my problem. #2 cylinder has extremely low compression. Did a leak down test and felt air coming out the exhaust port. SUCKS!!!! In the process of yankin' the head. Hope it don't cost much to fix it.

i'm taking it you did had gap under your exhaust cam when you did this..(valve clearance)

No. Just felt air coming out even with cams removed. Hope to have the head off tomorrow. Not much more to do to get it off.

Just pulled the bucket/shims off all the valves and they all look the same. Even the #2 cylinder. Wondering if the seat is broke or chipped a valve. Find out tomorrow.

i alway check valve clearance before cam removing .. it helps to diagnose the problem
cams removed is the easiest way to leakdown .. you have either a bent valve or burnt valve . or something stuck under the valve ..
if you'd check clearance you would have a better idea... cause the valve being hung open would give you a big clearance.
if its a bent valve some how that piston jump up and hit it ..and seeing that plug bent .. i'd look at that rod bearing

maybe rod streach or somthing my ss sport head did same thing at 10,000 rpm , but mine ended up being from thin head gasket with ss sport head.

Well. Broken piston. No damage to cylinder wals. Gotta pop the valves out and look at them yet. Here's the piston.

Zixxer - Suspecting detonation. Good thing is the cylinder wall wasn't damaged so it won't be too expensive to fix.
06Red - Gonna look at everything before it goes back together.

They look alright as installed but haven't popped them out yet so I can look at the valve seat. Gotta get my hands on a spring compressor tomorrow and go from there.

That is a lean/detonation issue. My number 1 cylinder was leaner than the rest a couple years ago. Found out the injector was bad when I sent them to be cleaned.
