is this a sysmtom of the secondary flies?
Bike feels like it has a flat spot until it gets past 3500ish rpms in first gear. Meaning, when taking off in first either aggressively or just normal riding and I keep the throttle in the SAME position, after 3500 rpms the bike pulls noticeably harder and kind of lunges.
Same flat/dead spot happens when cruising in any gear at low rpms (under 4000) when I crack the throttle a little bit and the bike takes a second or two and then takes off.
It really reminds me of turbo lag. Like it takes a second to build boost then it goes.
I have a 2011 and didnt really notice it that much with the stock exhaust. When i switched to slip ons and a 06 catless header i noticed it more. I guess I lost some low end tq.
My reading says pulling the flies on 08+ models wont have much effect but is this laggy feeling the result of the flies slowly opening up? If so ill get rid of them asap

The 06-07's were ridiculous, it didn't matter if I barely cracked the throttle or wacked it wide open under 5 grand, exact same acceleration. First big bore bike I ever rode that felt like a 600 at lower revs. It was beyond pathetic. I had to pull the flies within days of getting my 07.
But when it hit 6 grand Gracie bar the door
Secondary flies suck. Even the second gen busa is weaker than the first low down because of the secondary flies suzuki added. What happened to the days of a mans throttle where we had complete control, not sharing it with a damn ecu?

I find the 2012 model 14R also feels a bit restricted under about 3500rpms - no doubt the flies are at fault here. What is the consensus on pulling the flies on a 2012 ZX-14R? How many owners have done it and what are the pros/cons?
WIll it harm anything such as the TC system?

I'm not picking on you guys but what are you expecting from a 14r motor at 3500 rpm and redline is 11,000?

Pull the flies they just get in the way of air flow & quit riding it like it is a hardley abelson & all will be well. Bet it bucks too.

I ride this bike exclusively on public roads so I'm worried about lower revs and gas mileage (Sacrilege, I know.). I removed the 'flies on my '06 but I haven't yet on my '12. I suspect it's coming, though. You're going to lose a little gas mileage around town and a little more money/time for the work for the 'flies and/or the remap (It'll take more gas at lower rev's to keep it from being too lean.). Otherwise, you'll (and I'll) love it.
If any of that's wrong, someone please correct it.

I've noticed this on the 2012 too..With 1441 cc's folks are thinking it should pull quite a bit harder from low rpm...A triumph speed triple actually has more low rpm thrust...It's quite an entertaining bike for normal street riding...
Anyway...Yeah it's the flies as it really restricts low rpm torque...Will probably feel like a totally different bike.

sorrybentz68, I missed you had a 11, like others have sad, pull the secondaries. Doesn't an 008 tre open the secondaries fast? Might be easier to do if it does.

What did suzuki do that they don't have these issues.
I think the first zx14 opened the fly's later and did not have this issue also it might have something to do with air velocity down low.

The 008 tre is about halfway between stock and flies out on an 06-07. It helped, but nothing like pulling the flies completely. I've read alot that the 08-11's don't get near the gain from flies pulled.....but I haven't rode one stock or otherwise to know.
