Help rigging gauges on my 06

Recently made a post of my wreck, but my bike is finally coming together with fairings (happy). The gauge cluster costs too much and was wondering if anyone knows how to rig a tacho/fuel/speedometer from autozone or advanced autoparts. Do i just cut main harness wires and attach them to stock sensors? It's an 06 ZX14 [plasma candy blue]. Thanks!
