Any comments on the safety aspects of opperating the bike with the bottom rail of the tail frame removed?

Mine have been off since new on my 2007 14. Drag race only. I wouldn't ride two upwithout it.

I think it's ok to take them off, even if you ride on the street. There is no way I would ride 2 up without them

+1 I have put lots of street miles on, your weight is supported by the tank and subframe, But no 2 up.

awesome. thanks, I will try taking the bottom rails out.
I will be losing one mounting hole for the rectifier. Any simple ways of modding the right side so that the rectifier will have two points to mount ?

You are fine as long as you don't want to ride a passenger. Then it would be a safety concern. Each support rail weighs 15 oz., including the bolts.
The rectifier is fine with one mounting point, and I seem to recall ditching the big bracket as well.

Thanks, I may try one more time to get a passenger to ride with me but that will be the last time and then those bars have to come off!
I can't believe they only weigh a pound each! Actually not bad at all if a guy wanted to leave them in for two up riding.
