another reason to dislike the police

http://autos.yahoo.com/news/cities-with-the-most-speed-traps.html?page=1

Austin, TX

Law enforcement in the capital of Texas has a reputation for handing out speeding tickets to motorists only one to three miles per hour over the posted limits, says Farrell. "Trapster users have posted on Trapster"s Facebook page that many speed limits drop quickly, and happen to have heavy police ‘speed enforcement" in those areas."

Houston, TX

Most cities in Texas are in Trapster"s top 20, but Houston is the highest-ranking speed-trap city at number 3. "Texas can be tricky, with a reputation of changing the speed limits on major highways to dramatically low speeds, then back up to high speeds,"

Back in 08 I got $700 worth of fines in Houston. That cop was a dick, if I would have known the area better he would have never seen me again

They give you ten over here and really the traps aren't that frequent. So I guess we got it pretty easy.

there was a time when you would see these words on the door of a squad car "to protect and serve the public" I guess we didn't pay them enough. So now they take it.

I needed another reason?
Isn't the sherrif elected in the US? Seems like someone the TX needs to put heavy political pressure to stop the BS speed traps (I respect speed enforcement where there is a reason but that highway down-up crap is revenue generation plain and simple).

Also, all those fines would have been better spent here: http://www.bikeland.org/shave

there is a law in Texas that says if your town rights more tickets than a set number for your size. You can lose state funding. and they know exactly what that number is and can probably meet that quota within a couple hours of each day. I haven't had a ticket in five years, but the last time I got one. I got three in one month, all three were in a speed reduction zone. So I bought a radar detector. So I could play their game.

what it states i believe is that after so many tickets the state gets all the money ..the STATE OF TEXAS is the issue with the Texas department of safety who writes more tickets than any city..

here is what the texas law says about quotas:
http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/TN/htm/TN.720.htm

Having said that, some places are worse than others. I used to average one a year, and take defensive driving. After getting two in one year 2001, I didnt get another for 7 years, until I hit HELLPASO. I got cited 6 times in 1 1/2 years, and didn't change my driving habits. But noticed that the Mexican Frontera Chiuahua cars were never pulled over on the side of the road.
One of the tickets I got had a sucharge, that I didnt find out about (even though I renewed my driver's license, and registration on several vehicles) until I checked my driving history. My license had been suspended from 2008 until 2011!!!!

I can tell you for a fact that there are quotas in NY and attitude goes a long way.... Personally I have avoided being ticketed the past 20 years.... If your all legal and you walk the right way and talk the right way, you get a break. If you get pulled over and say what's the problem, they will make a problem for you.... If you hate the cops so much, then don't call them when you have an emergency. Just my 2 cents
