2012 hit the 1/8 mile drags for some testing ..

Not feeling well but i just had to give this new ZX14R at shot at the strip.. I have not rode a bike in over a half a year and was shaking in my boots .. First few runs i tried the TC set on number 2 .. It will not spin , it will not wheely and it will not go fast either .. Best i could do in TC 2 was 6.50s .. I switched it to TC 1 and got into the 6.40s ...

I felt i could handle the bike with the TC turned off so i gave it a shot .. 6.27 @ 122 Then a 6.16 @ 122 ...

My best of 6 runs i felt pretty good about was a 6.10 @ 122.38 ...

You need to know that the 6.10 run i could not get full throttle in first .. This bike makes to much HP to go full throttle in first gear at stock wheel base and i was using a 41 tooth rear sprocket and not the factory 42 tooth .. I short shifted the bike to get that 6.10 to keep from banging the limiter .. This engine Revs so fast it is very hard to keep it off the limiter .. I got to go wide open throttle in second gear and it floats the tire 6 inches or so all the way till you hit third gear ...Than it's back to floating the tire in third !!! My 60s were bad and my 330s sucked becuase i just could not go full throttle .. But that back 330 this thing hauls ass !!
I used the clutch to shift and killed the gas on every shift , i was just to shakey to really hammer the bike the first time out ..I need a few more trips to the track to fugure out the best way to ride this bike.

Trust me , anyone who thinks they can just jump on the bike and go fast there first trip to the track has rocks for brains .. This bike is a hand full for even skilled riders ..
The video below shows how slow i had to leave to keep the tire on the ground ... Once you are in second gear hold the hell on !!! The top end pull is out of this world for a stock motored bike ..

Man o man i just got to watch the video of my run for the first time .. Did i take off slow or what .. I had to roll the throttle on so slow or the wheel would start coming up ..I bet i never got more that 1/2 throttle in fist gear .. That has to be the slowest i have every rolled on the throttle in my life ... I'm thinking 64 inch + plus wheel base as soon as i can !!

Things happen so fast i forgot to tell you this ... Third gear the wheel is off the ground when i got to the finish line and the tire hit the ground at 122 MPH i got a pretty nasty head shake .. I'm thinging extra wheel base will fix that problem BUT you guys trying this at stock wheel base be carefull !!!

I'll tell you this ..Teddy and I said it at the same time , there are going to be a ton of these bikes crashed in a very short time .. Ebay is going to be full of parts and engines real fast ..

Damn!!!!..............Kawasaki should fire all its marketing people and hire you.......they'd sell a hell of a lot more bikes!!

I could REALLY tell you were launching easy compared to usual and holding back all that power...........not sure if it was because I've seen lots of videos of you launching a Gen 1 hard or you just filmed the launch well but it was even more evident than the video's Rickey and Wheelie posted that you were launching easy and not WOT cause of all the power.

I REALLY want one of these!!!

Your skills give you away my friend...

Lee:

Your time slip speaks for you and your humility about it is why so many respect you. All your comments about what it takes to extract the insane performance from this bike resonate with me because I am NOT as skilled as you. Unfortunately, I think you are also right about the crash factor with 14R's. I already know that this bike is going to require me to expand my skill set in a variety of ways. Anyone who doesn't respect the 14R as... more and...different from the "old" 14 will...learn the hard way.

Well done bro,

Leo

With a couple more times to the track and Lee feeling better, he'll bust out some 5.90's! Could tell he wasn't his chipper self last night. Not making a pass in over 6 months didn't help either. He had FULL RESPECT for the bike the first few passes then he started to settle in and get down to business. This is an 8 second out of the showroom, stock wheelbase bike for those that can ride it! I fully believe Lee will get that 8 second slip this coming spring!

Lee, this might be a really stupid question but SWB if you cant go full throttle in 1st do you think running 16/42 gears and launching in 2nd so you not only have 1 less shift but can pin it quicker "might" work?

Nice going, Lee. No doubt this bike is going to be a handful at swb.

On the plus side, if a dragstrip noob leaves it in TC2 they might be safe and have fun.

I think the TC will keep the bike manageable for the vast majority of riders, and I think Kawasaki was smart to include it. Of course, the rest of us will spend a lot of time with it switched off!

I agree that it was smart of Kawasaki to put TC on the bike and to have the default to TC so the rider has to consciously turn off the traction control........that should be a clear factor in protecting Kawasaki from law suits from idiots who shouldnt be riding a bike with this much power................that said I couldnt ever envision myself using the TC unless it was riding in a low traction condition like rain, snow, gravel/sand etc.....
