What oil???
I am sure this topic has been beaten to death but, when I use the search button the results are way to vast and not many suggestions fron zx14 owners. So what oil do the vast majority of you guys use? I recently bought it and would like to change the oil just so I know it's good. The bike just turned 2,100 miles. So should I switch to synthetic now? please give me your recommendations on oil and filter and the best places to get them Thanks!!
Also the bike is predominantly just street ridden but will see occasional drag strip use eventually. I would like it all, but would choose longevity over absolute max power as far as the oil weight goes. I live in Delaware so it never gets too cold here, but is pretty hot in the summer.

I thought bikes require motorcycle oil specifically because of the clutch discs?

motomoto...as long as it isn't "energy conserving" oil, it will be fine. I use Rotella 15W-40 since I change the oil due to a lot of drag racing. If you want synthetic, get the Rotella T6. It's JASO MA rated so it's rated for wet clutches. Get it at WalMart.

You can get the oem oil filters on eBay cheaper. I think they come in packs of 3 last time I checked.

Another Rotella user here. Kinda sick of paying so much more for oil marketed specifically for bikes. No issues after 3 or 4 oil changes so far (tho that isn't saying much, granted).
Though I have to say the Kawasaki branded full synth I used to pick up at the dealer was surprisingly reasonable (compared to others).

I've used many different brands, but mostly rotella 5w40 synthetic. When I pulled the head at 12k miles, the cylinders looks brand new with no scarring, and I was still on the original clutch pack with about 150 1/4 mile passes. Rotella is about half the cost of the other "motorcycle" oils.
Brad Penn racing oil is also another option.

Its completely up to you but I use a napa gold filter with Motorex Synth on my last two oil changes. I go about 2k miles between oil changes. I have used Royal Purple MC, Amsoil MC, Mobil 1 MC, all with good results.

I assume that is under racing conditions?
I've never understood the practice of changing oil more frequently than OEM specs. Unless your engine is undergoing extreme conditions, the OEM spec is bound to include a generous safety factor as is. Lord, I've gone double the recommended interval with no issues (tho it is pretty damn dirty at that point). Although i DO change filter on every oil change...

Question. If the bike sits 3 months in the winter with relatively clean oil in it does it need changing again? I only put about 1K miles on it the other months.........

Golden Spectro 4-Semi Synthetic 10W-40. I change the oil every season which comes out to about 1,500 miles. I ride it hard but don't kill it WOT all the time, I do have a family to come home to after all.
