Bottomed out, advice from experts req!

G'day,

Names Matt and I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to the actual mechanicals of a motorbike. I have owned a zx12r and have recently bought a zx14r 2011 model which I love. I have done only maintanence work on it like oil change etc. Recently I was arriving home in the dark after quite a nice ride - riding over my front lawn at about 7km/r and then there was a god awful scraping sound. Turns out there was half a brick hidden in the grass and it the bike bottomed out on it really hard. I could not feel any oil leaks but the drain bolt looks a bit mangled and there are these little fin things that are cracked and falling off before the bolt.

Have I just completely screwed my bike? Is there a possiblility the impact could of caused micro fractures through the engine and loosen seals or something? What is the best way to go about repairing the damage?

Any advice would be truly appreciated. Oh man I am stressing..

Just check for oil leaking...If not then you have nothing to worry about...If its leaking tighten the drain plug and if it still leaks then you'll need a new oil pan...That would be the most of the damage, your motor is fine!!!

Just what they said, double check for leaks and you will be good.

My fins were ripped off when it was bottomed out on a trailer and never had a problem with leaks.

You just made the bike a bit more wheelie safe. Shaved a half inch of wasted ground clearance. I doubt if anything was damaged at all except fpr the drain plug protector. Dremmelthat sucker off and go low profile bolt. IDK a thing about the low profile pans. Only thing you would want to avoid was making the bike more prone to oil starvation. There are a few that have thrown rods through the motor from not getting sufficient oil.

The front is very soft on the 14. Sounds like you encountered a situation that you are not very likely to need to deel with on a regular basis. Still have a look at adjusting the sag or at least stepping up the preload on the front.

I felt the rear was set too hard for me and front much too soft. I was tapping bottom a lot before i made some adjustments.

Sent you a PM back bradkong. I was just quoting Newf up there. He is the guy who has the low profile drain plugs, not me. So PM Newf14 for that item.
