The agrement from & of manufactures to keep the HP down on Super bikes so the insurance companys dont cry faul on them. May go out the window soon to try and get your sale in this tough money market . There are already a couple of manufactures that dont play that way.

Kawi needs to return to their roots and build something that is so far ahead of the competition that EVERYONE wants one, they can underrate the horsepower if they want like many of the 60's muscle cars did but I think they should just say FU$% the bureaucrats and build the baddest bike around and and let public demand take care of everything else if France bans it let the horsepower junkies import it via the black market or build it neutered but easy to derestrict.......but the fact that Kawi is focusing on CRAP like traction control, slipper clutches, it is neutered in the first 3 gears, restricted on top speed and has a 1 piece block that is difficult and expensive to upgrade tells me they dont have a clue what their customers REALLY want!!!

That's what the ZX12R A1 is.

I bought one brand new in April 2000. Did top speed test w/ Paul Dean from Cycle World......Result? 179.9 in 5th. at 11,000 rpm (tach) 183.4 in 6th. at 11,000 rpm (tach). Bike would not pull past 10,300 engine rpm. Damn bureaucrats and shame on Kawi!!!

Found out what the "6 week delay" was about........A corked up exhaust can and the ECU was softend above 11,500. Plop on a full Muzzy, a PCIII and a map.

Top speed test II w/ Paul Dean from Cycle World....Result? 196.8 mph at 12,200 (tach) 11,500 engine in 2980 DA air. It did not help that I am NOT Doug Meyer in size or skill..

Well SHIT! Now we have something!!

I also prepared my 12 for road racing, found out it has the most desireable chassis geometry AND wheelbase. Plop in some Race Tech gold vales and BOOM! Perfect handling that belies it's 505 lb. track weight.......NICE! Some Brake Tech Billet Iron rotors and braided lines.....AMA racer Matt Hartlieb said "I can use the same brake markers as my full AMA race preped 600 with this "Aircraft Carrier"!!!

You can ride my 12 all day, carve a tight canyon and kick some EYE Abusa ass anytime with it. With my "Stupid Simple" Muzzy 1270 kit, not even a stock Busa with a blow through turbo or a 14 can touch it still to this day!

KHI did not put the "Silver Book" together because the ZX12R A1 was a run of the mill Kawi.

It would have to be stolen or destroyed for me to part with it!

Or Kawasaki could have just as easily decided to kill the ZX-14 due to low sales. The fact they are making some changes means the bike will be around for a few years yet. This should make us happy I think?

I wonder what the actual percentage is of ZX-14's that are actually raced?

Almost all the ones I see are show room stock (or close to it) and the owners I talk to just use them as a street bike or aggressive sport touring.

So the argument that variable valve timing, ABS and traction control makes a revised ZX-14 less desirable really is a bunch of crap for the vast majority of people that will buy the bike.

Most people do not race the Hayabusa. But historically it has walloped the Kawasaki (12 and 14) on the sales floor. Performance can build a reputation, which can then inspire customers.

EXACTLY...............exactly in an economy where 10% of the country is unemployed and another 105 is underemployed and dealers are closing left and right and 2 year old bikes are still on the sales floor at many dealers.........they NEED to give people what they REALLY want to get people to ante up for a new bike..............like I said unless something truly groudbreaking comes out like the ZX 11 or Busa that is leaps and bounds ahead of everything else in power I dont seemy self buying a new bike EVER!!

Your Spot on too Shane.......many people are dragracers or horsepower junkies who truly crave the badest bike out there..........but many more crave the reputation of having the fastest bike even if they dont use all that power very often.

Actually the manufacturers never agreed on a hp limit.
What they agreed on in 2000 after the 1st zx12s were already out on the street was a top speed limit of 300kph or 186.4 mph. In 2001 both bikes had electronic speed limiters and the speedo only went to 185 mph instead of 220 mph.
The 2000 busas and zx12's were the last of the unrestricted top speed bikes produced by either manufacturer.

As far as the 2012 zx14? Its not a BNG bike nor a tweaked or refined or updated bike. Your current parts wont fit it.

Japan is going to need plenty of sales now . They may unleash the best power & tech they have that you can buy for a buck in the next year or two . That will be the edge they have over the China bikes that will take there mid class sales

That would REALLY make things interesting if Kawi put out a 200RWHP ZX 14 next year............it would be a coin flip between a New Zx 14 and making mine into a 230RWHP beast.

What I wrote SHANE, is exactly what I have expirienced with my 12 over the last decade. Let me guess.......the Busa mentality finds it hard to believe that a mostly stock Eye Abusa with a low boost (4-6) lbs. making 200 h.p. could not possibly be outrun by a "Stock Looking" 1270cc 12. Yes, they complain......"you put in a piston kit". OK, so?!?"you still have 30cc's on me".

Yeah, that what's the Busa owner out here in Phoenix could not believe either. Funny how reality thumps you on the melon as that slow embarassment of of 12 just slowly pulls away and you cannot catch it! But I have a TURBO Busa! WTF!

It's been loads of fun for me too. Busa after busa gets schooled on what is truly fast. Actually, the newer 1000's like G1K and 10R put up more of a fight.

Saw it comming SHANE. That's why I posted.
