GREEN VALLEY RACEWAY!!! Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!!! Who's old enough to remember?

That's easy!

Smokin, Wheelie, Kawa74, and me. Maybe Lab3? Maybe TNT?

Speaking of Kawa74, here he is, and for those of you who are picky about wearing gear, a warning is in order!

Finally converted from VHS tape (what's THAT?) from summer 1980 (yes - 30 years ago!).

Oh, if you're skeered of running against cars, another warning is in order!

We ran against them every weekend for years without being killed.

At least here is someone that you will recognize.

I worked there in the late 1960's when Mr. McClure owned the track and "Yogie" was Track Manager ( Jimmie Kirk).....................we parked in his (McClures)back yard off Smithfield Hiway and walked thru to the back of the pits where the old road corse looped around to the Bridge at the Starting line. Had a 1966 GTO with a 1965 421 3X2's from a Catalina 2Plus2 engine in it. Ran the high 12's... low 13's back then. Had a 1962 Impala SS 409 2X4 before that.older brother went to war in Viet Nam and I kept the battery charged for him. :-) Miss that old Black 409. Pit crew for Chippie Woodall he had a A class small block Chevy rail back then Rip built the engine for him. Tom at California Custom Garage, Doc Dutton, Bobby and Emmit from Scotties Auto all raced out there back then. Calverts in Denton use to balance the short blocks for us back then.

That woulda been TOO COOL!

All the video I have appears to be from 1980 - 1983.

What years were you racing there?

From about 73 ,74 till 80 , 81 .. I spent most of my time running Cedar Creek ( Seven Points ) .. I made to trip to the Valley when i needed 1/4 mile numbers..

I'll take another look.

In the meantime, here's one of ME (in the far lane) vs kawa74 (fast forward to early 1983). Just a time trial, so heads-up race:

Looks like he drove around me, but that's just the camera angle.
My reaction time = .566, his .666. That sounds bad, but there *is* an explanation.

All said and done, I won by .05 or about 10 feet.

Before that there were no reaction times. Then the Sportsman tree. .400 was a perfect light.(I think) killed those brain cells back then... :-) was that the explanation?? memory is foggy :-)
No 1/8 mile #s in 1969.......... I was 19. My Dad was Service Manager at Overseas Motors he had a 1965 XK "E" model Jag. good looking but my GTO would kill it. On a good day it ran high 15's.But out on the old "Turnpike" from Big "D" to Fort Worth the Jag had good top end.. Got busted in it...Pop had to come get me "speeding ticket" I had Not paid. Man he was PISSED. GTO sat in the driveway for 6 weeks. 1st year at T.C.J.C. jr. College.

Yep, you got it. RT was total time from the last bulb. In this case , it was a .500 tree, so a .566 - .500 was what we would now know as a .066 RT.

As you said, on a .400 tree, 400 was a perfect light ..............
