what spark plugs besides oem CR9EIA-9

Is there anything better than factory plugs? I burn 87 octane gas in the tank. I'm doing my first plug change.

The CR9EIA-9 and the CR9EIX plugs are slightly different, and except for some skoots the CR9EIA-9 is the better plug. The difference between the plugs is the CR9EIA-9 is a projected tip plug which puts the electrode gap deeper into the center of the combustion chamber, which from my experience promotes better combustion.

In my experience the only alternative to the CR9EIA-9 that rivals it's peformance, or has shown to offer a slight performance improvement is the CR9EK-PA, which is a projected tip
dual ground electrode platinum plug. It is about $4 more per plug.

Stay with the CR9EIA-9 plug for it's benefits from it's projected tip design.

Some guys swear by the ngk iridiums and some say don't bother.

On my track gsxr swapping to iridiums resulted in crisper throttle response,
but maybe the oems were gone at 3K mostly track miles.
Either way- I put mine in and liked the result.

I just picked up four CR9EIX, thats what the guy at the parts store cross referenced for me for irridium plugs. These are correct right?

I noticed mine ran much cleaner, better throttle reeponse after replacing them at approx 8,000 km.
They were dirty looking, I guess with a fat 12.9:1 map they carbon up faster than the epa map.

I just put a new set of the stock CR9EIA-9s in the old ones with about 22K on them just looked a bit normal deposits on them. Ride on the street only with a full system. For long plug life reliability they seem like a good bet too me. I'm not going to second guess factory setup on this one. The bike seems to run a little crisper now.
