07 vs. 08 Crankshaft??

It is my understanding that the gear on both the crank and the clutch basket are different on the 07 vs. 08. Does this mean that you can swap an 08 and 07 crank, as long as you have the matching clutch basket?

Anyone know if there are any other differences?

Shane

I know they are different....but is that all you need to change...the crank and the basket gear?

The gears on the two are not the same as the 08 and from what somebody posted on Pyschobike( I think) that was the only diff. I would assume the oil pump gear would be different and also the balancer shaft gear. Not 100% sure though and I cant find that info anywhere yet.

All the gears are the same size ... The 06 07 has two ring gears , one made soild to the basket and the other loaded with spings ..What this does is load the gears and stop any basket or clutch rattle ... The 08 09 has one ring gear and uses a different cut in the basket gear and crank gear to stop basket rattle ..
I never herd of a 06 or 07 clutch with basket problems , so i wonder why Kawi made the change for 08 09 .... Cost maybe ?

One guy in Houston blew his basket up on the street last month. It was the only case I ever heard of so far.

My reason for asking is that I sometimes see 08 cranks for sale. I was just wondering what it would take to fit one to an 07 motor; I'm still not quite clear on that.

split gear ont eh clutch-- pretty sure the only thing you have to change is the clutch basket wit the crank-- not sure why you sould see the 08 cranks for sale-- havent' heard of any problems and I don't know if one is better than the other--
