Oil filters, pressure and compatible 14 filters to use?

I saw this an other articles about oil filters:

"Oil filters, and their selection, can be a mystery to us since we are not able to see how or how well they are working without getting very dirty, hooking up a bunch of instruments, and doing extensive testing on both the filter and the oil. Understanding how the oil filter works with the oil pump to provide the engine with an adequate oil pressure of relatively clean oil at all times is the first step in knowing what filter to use. Most importantly, it is more important to have the correct oil pressure and flow through the engine at all times than having the cleanest oil possible."

I have been looking for other filters than the Kawa OEM and HI Flo 303. Does anyone know of other brands and their numbers that are compatible for the 14?

K & N KN 303 Motorcycle filter
There is an automotive K & N that fits a mazda 6 that is stocked at AutoZone and Advanced Auto parts wish I had the number off the top of my head sorry.

With a Muzzy M14 exhaust the 2.5" short filter like the OEM will only fit.

I need to research the K&N filters and see if the HP-1008 for a Mazda

is made different from the K&N 303. Check valve etc. Good info.

Synthetic filter media. I would not use for racing. Regular riding it's the best with no degradation.

I have been cutting oil filters open to see what they look like for more years than I can remember. I look for metal bits but have also be able to have a look at construction.

I haven’t had the chance to cut open a Fram for a ZX14 but every other Fram I have opened revealed, well a piece of junk. Glued together, smallish filter are compared to stock, little if any drain protection and a bypass that appeared cheesy.

Just about every OEM filter I have opened has been well made. Some aftermarket brands such as Mobile 1 and K&N come to mind.

Is anyone else this anal about their filters?

i am all for saving money, but not at the cost of an engine rebuild. Remember just because they will screw on doesn't mean they are compatible.

I personally like OEM filters or the NAPA golds (which I think are Wix). I run the NAPA filters in everything that I own, truck with 317,000 miles, cars, BMW R1100RS with over 130,000 miles and even my garder tractor.

I'm gona start using them in my 14 as the 2 dealerships nearest to me have closed.

I just found some interesting data regarding the different oil filters that you guys have mentioned.

First, if you go to this site and type in the manufacturer's number, it will give you the NAPA (which is made by Wix) number.

It gives you all of the dimensions and most interestingly, the flow rate in GPM. The PS (Powersports) series flow 2 to 3 gpm more, which is about 25%.

For example the NAPA 1356, which is the equivalant to the Purolator PL14610 flows 7-9 gpm but if you type in "PS" before any of the NAPA numbers, you come up with the powersports series which in the case of the PS1356 flows 9-11gpm.

I'm sure that the difference is in the filtering media, where the lower flow numbers probably mean that the media is "finer", but in my case where my bike sees mostly the 1/4 mile and LSR events, I suspect that the higher flow ratings would be more to my advantage.

I have also asked myself, what good is a super duper altra fine filter media if it restricts flow and therefore, bypasses some, or most, of the oil. I destroyed a V8 when a cam lobe failed and because the oil filter had an internal bypass, the filter did practically nothing. It was ugly.
