Finally installed some new pipes
Yeah, I know more stupid exhaust questions from a new guy. Anyhow I finally got around to putting a set of cans on my 07 and honestly I'm kinda feeling lukewarm about it. I took out the flies right after I got the bike and installed a power commander with a stock exhaust and flies out map. After installing the pipes it sort of feels like I lost a little on the bottom but the bike seems to rev a bit more freely now. I took it out for a spin and found myself cruising around 1k rpm's higher than usual. (after installing 2 bros. slip ons) I noticed the on-off throttle transition was less smooth than before and occasionally I'll get a pretty good pop. Not the decel burble you always get with a pipe but almost a backfire type pop.
Will proper mapping smooth things out and bring back a bit of the low end torque? Or does putting on the pipe just move some of the power further up the rev range? The pipes are a little louder than I would like, I can live with that but if I have to listen to that popping, on-off crackle and generally grumpy nature that my bike now has I'm putting the stock pipes back on. What do you guys think?

proper mapping will get your bottom end back better than ever, especially with the flies out. as far as the popping goes, there are is an air box block off plug that comes with some of the pipes that helps some, but with an aftermarket exhaust it won't go away. there is supposed to be a tre that reduces the pops but i wouldn't want to lose my gear indicator.

I figured getting a different map would help. My fz1 would pop pretty good until I took off the air injection system and plugged the holes with a nice kit from Dale Walker. I don't really want to fool with the tre, I like the gear indicator. Any idea where I might get the right map?

the dynojet site has a bunch of them, see if one matches your application. i have the lcd device that can store a bunch of them and load as i go, or you can load them with your pc and test em out. if you do it in the bike just start it up and load the map, otherwise use the 9v battery to power the pclll. the new pcv uses the power from your usb connection.

I didn't see a map for flies out 2bros. slip on at the Power commander website. The other small problem is that I have a Mac, not a pc. I tried to download one of their maps, didn't work. I wish I had a cheap-ass laptop for this kind of thing. I found a couple of places that make the block off plates, any of you guys do this mod? This whole scenario is why I took so long doing the pipes. You get a cascade effect where one thing makes something else not work right and you spend a bunch of money getting the bike to run like it did when it was stock. It's been a long cold winter maybe I'm suffering "not enough riding" syndrome.

Been my experience to go with block off plates and get a custom map. never had any luck with downloaded maps. But I'm retarded thataway.
I fashioned my own plates (just plugged and sealed stock plate, then plugged frame airbox and threw hoses etc in box)
Bike rips down low. Need a steady hand now. I like it. I like it alot!
Like Steve says there are very knowledgeable folks here to help you.
I'm lazy and was worried about the A/F ratio. So a custom map was the easiest way to solve that.

I'd like to get the bike on a dyno and have a custom map made but I just don't know where to have that done around here. I take it removing the emission stuff isn't too big of a deal?

4power. I live near Reading. Have a guy about 45 minutes north of me that is great with dyno work. Has done several bikes for me and friends. He just did my 14 two weeks ago with full Yoshi and pc. As soon as the PM is working again on this sight, I'll send you the information.

That would be awesome. 'Bout how much does something like that cost?

Will proper mapping smooth things out and bring back a bit of the low end torque? Or does putting on the pipe just move some of the power further up the rev range? The pipes are a little louder than I would like, I can live with that but if I have to listen to that popping, on-off crackle and generally grumpy nature that my bike now has I'm putting the stock pipes back on. Ivans TRE008 was installed on my 07 ZX-14 before I got it. I know the former owner. His and another friend with a 421 system on a 06 ZX-14 had the same problem and the TRE cured the popping. I was curious if a Dyno tune would stop the popping with out a TRE.

You can get a Gipro which will give you the nuetral map lock and a gear indicator...so you'll lose the pop and still know what gear your in I have Ivans N tre on my bike and it cured the backfiring
Now that I'm going turbo tho Dave recommended I dump the tre....so I'll have my gear indicator back but I'm hoping I don't get the backfires back as well
