Last Ride of the Year vids/pics Well, got Gilberjj at least to show up! Had 'bout 20 riders on our ride, which we broke up into 2 groups. I led the fast group, which started with 10 guys, then down to 8, then the "Fatalistic Five" of gilberjj on his 14, a VERY good Aprillia rider, two TL1000R's, and me. Pretty funny how the best riders filtered out so quick once the pace stepped up! The key was in having alot of regroup stops so guys could jump between groups and relocate inside each group.
Kudo's to Gilberjj, he was a surprise to most there. He can actually toss that bike around the twisties decently when he isnt doing a 100mph+ wheelie past everyone! Overheard two guys in the slow group saying that they were 'surprised' that not only did he not drop down to there group, but that he was hanging tight with us. Unlike the Busa and new gixxer 750 that were left so far behind they had to "phone a friend".
The guys on 600's and 1000's are just running out of excuses for there slowness around here! First it was me: big, heavy, loudmouthed AND fast. Talk about a bitter pill to swallow! Then Mr. mellow shows up and serves another zx14 sized dose of humble pie. Here's a posted quote from the Aprillia guy:
Maybe stupid enough to push it on the damp stuff is the right wording:ninja: Only time I could keep the dueling 14's from leaving me in the dust:thefinge:
I tried to record everything, but ran into more camera problems. "Temperature too cold, shutting down". Over and over again, and every time it lost all filming up to that point. No gilberjj, neither of those has you in it, sorry bud. Thought I had some awesome footage of you blasting by me, and all the wheelies etc. but they all were unrecoverable! Steering stem mount for a camera is on order. Stupid tank mount sucks ass! Here's two vids/pics: (more vids will be posted after I get home. YouTube was fuckin up all night while I tried to load them!):
Yes, thats a mohawk on his helmet. And he was riding a Hyosong 650. I have no idea how he ended up on this ride... The TLR streetfighter is an example of how NOT to do one. lol

That's a really nice RSV Mille in the second to last pic. Always been one of my favorite bikes. I'm digging the tsukigi on Gilberjj's bike too!

Had that Mille's ugly front end in my mirror most of the ride. I could slowly lose him when I really stepped it up in the twisties, but I had to work for it, and as soon as I let up he was right back on my tail. Then we had to wait for gilberjj to push the TL's up to us so we could take off again.
FYI: His Mille was a dead tie with the TLR all the way up, and beat the streetfighter TLS (just found out it was a TLS, not TLR) on the top end by just a bit. Both me and gilberjj had lots of throttle on all of them, not even a question! Nice to be able to play around trying to do chop throttle wheelies while everyone else is going balls out just to keep up! Then you got gliberjj pulling 1/4 mile long wheelies AND putting bike length upon bike length ahead of the Mille. THATS why we bought these beasts!!
Heads up on the always controversial Heli Risers:
Pre risers: after 20 minutes or so my hands would start to go numb. Had to throw the hand on the leg every chance I got, and always trying to tweak my back to take the pressure off the wrists. Low speed (below 40mph) handling was always dicey, bike wanted to drop into turns and just felt unstable and out of its element, not confidence inspiring at all.
After Risers: not ONCE on the 5 hours of riding did my hands go numb or tingle. The only remarkable thing about my hands was: that I never had to think about them! Never even thought to put them on my leg until I saw others doing it. WoW. Handling- well, I also added one more turn of preload so not a perfect comparison, BUT- the low speed issues almost completely went away. Bike was way easier to cram into tighter corners (watch the first part of the video closely, I was easily going full upright to full lean on the slower stuff, just because I was stoked to be able to without any drama). It transitioned easier from full left to full right, either because of a leverage issue, or maybe because my weight was more centered and less on the front tire, dont know. At speeds over 90mph or so, however, it wasnt as ,,, ? nimble?. Not sure how to explain it, but the rock solid surety that was there before was dissipated some. Again could have been due to the stiffer preload that also caused some jackhammering over ripples, since I didnt touch any other settings before the ride.
All in all, though, I gotta give the Heli Risers a +1. Might not be right for everyone, but for this 6'5", 340lb sasquatch they worked better than I could have hoped for!
(Yes, sad to say I weigh 340lbs. Just went to the doctor and used there scale. Ouch! Breakfast and Lunch are gonna suck for about 6 months now... slimfast shakes only. ____________

Was low 50's up where we were, too. bundled up! Only problem was my damn fogging up visor. I had just taken my Fog City insert out becuase it was all scratched up, and didnt get around to replacing it. WRONG!! Damn thing fogged up instantly with even one single breath in that cold damp air. Was the only bad part of the ride. Open visor is fine until 'bout 110mph, then it has to go down or get ripped off. Then I would hold my breath until I could open it again. lol
Tried to keep the rpms down if you noticed. Whenever I got near 10K the rear tire would start moving in 2nd or 3rd.

Welcome to the Pacific NW. Rides like that all over Washington, BC, Oregon, Idaho, western Montana.
If you live right out on the coast and don't mind riding wet roads you can ride all winter. (well almost) We do get 1-2 days of snow each winter but give it 24 hours and it is all gone. I used to live back east but 20 years ago discovered the PNW and have been here enjoying it ever since.

Too bad I didn't know about the ride!! I was trying to find anyone to ride with this weekend! Everybody had an excuse... Not too many days left and I hated to waste a perfectly good Sunday yesterday!! I still went out, but not far.
It's definitely getting cooler on the east side of the Cascades. I had a job in Pullman last Friday that kept me until after 7:00 PM. It was 33 degrees on the way home. The only thing that felt cold was my neck, time for a scarf or something. The 14 felt so awesome I didn't notice the cold that much. I've gotta get something to stop the face sheild fogging up though...

For the neck get a ski'rs sleeve. Should be available at any sporting good shop that sell ski equipment. For the visor stop into a snowmobile shop. They have or should have visors for full face helmets that are double walled. The outside stays cold but the inside has the air barrier like double paned windows. If you are really into winter riding I believe snowmobilers also have access to heated visors.

Nice job on the video, looks like a blast. I have a tankmount also for my camera but I want a rear mount to film the action of all the guy's trying to catch me. As far as I know nobody makes one. I may end up sacrificing a passenger peg to fab a makeshift rearmount.

Sorry Lacker, I forgot about PM'ing you! Figured you would pick up on the ride thru PNWRiders. As for Someguy, I SENT YOU A PM!!!! And you turned me down.
The only rear mount I could find mounts on the swingarm and looks over the rear tire. However, I've seen guys do wonders with zip-ties (used as a fail safe) and aluminum tape! Just tape the camera to the left rear peg bracket. Do a good enough job of taping, and it actually blends into the bracket and isnt that obvious. Bluebyyou might as well toss that tankmount, its worthless! Tank is too long for them, gotta use a clipon or steering stem mount. $$$
For some damned reason YouTube wont take my other vids. Had massive problems the first night, was only able to get 2 vids online. Now it wont let me download the rest, saying "Unable to download, duplicate video". Apparently somewhere in YouTubes files it says those first aborted download attempts worked and I have the video, but they just arent showing up! I even modified one video per YouTube directions in cases like mine, and its still, 12 hours later, saying "This video is unavailable".
There any other easy video hosting sites you guys know of?

more video (taken from the swingarm of the TL1000S streetfighter). Thought at first he was flat out leaving gilberjj behind, but then I realized that he was just hanging back that far on purpose. There was LOTS of rocks getting thrown up, everyone was taking hits to headlights, helmet, and chest... casualties were one GSXR 750 radiator, and multiple cracked headlights, and 2 good bruises on my chest at least!

actually, i hate riding near zooktls, he is pretty reckless. That was my 3rd time riding with him and I was just trying to stay away from him. He almost took out the rc51 on our ride. He came within one foot of the rc51 and went into panic braking. The 51 had no idea that zook got so close to him. I cursed in my helmet when he decided he needed to pass me. I would just recommend keeping some distance from him. His bike looks like it does because he went down last summer on the 101 loop.
Thanks again for the good ride though sticks. I really need new tires. I really wasn't as confident as you in the wetter stuff. I was pushing just as fast as I felt comfortable, and even then I was doing some power sliding action out of a few corners. No thanks.....
also, Sticks, where did you find those 2cts for so cheap?

Huh didnt know that. I'm always leary of guys I dont know riding behind me for reasons just like that. Good thing I left him way behind me! lol
I totally understand not wanting to push that flat ass tire of yours in the corners. Been there, done that (or, in this case, NOT done that!). Next spring you, Lacker14, Someguy, and I will have to host up a hwy 20 ride for big bore bikes only.

Also, you need to come with me when Pacific Raceways opens up again in the Spring.
I got at least one of your wheelies on video. Just having issues uploading that damn video to YouTube! Just found another free hosting site for videos, so as soon as I get home I'll post it up. Expect it around 4:30pm.

Blue, did you forget you are in the zx14 forums??? Trying to compare your Busa to a 14 as far as camera mounts is apples and oranges. Glad your tank mount works so well for ya. My, on the other hand, sucks because of the long ass distance from gas tank filler to dash. And the tank is lower than on any other bike I've seen (in relation to the dash/windshield that is).
This vid here is using 1" spacers under the camera, still sucked! it also shows how you properly pass pesky cars midcorner without letting the GTO, err I mean 'the cars', have a chance to catch you!

Your camcorders lense must sit up higher than mine, or you have a taller mount. Wish mine worked that well! Now Im committed to buying a steering stem mount.
