Oil filter wrench
Went to change my filter and it's ON there. Tried a cap style and all it wanted to do was slip. Seems it's an odd size. Frams web site says to use a 66/68, it's too big. Anyone have the room or luck using one of the spider style wrenches? Read a few things on here that the factory tightens them way too much.
Thanks,
Chris

I have a "pliers" type oil filter wrench from Auto Zone which I have used on my last 4 bikes. It works great for removing the filter but can wreck a filter if you use it to tighten a new filter.

I have an oil filter wrench that is a handle with a rubber strap attached to one end, and the other end you can slip into a groove after wrapping around the filter.
The more you turn it the tighter it gets, and it fits in tight clearances.
I haven't had a problem getting filters off with it.
I guess if your filter is on WAY TOO TIGHT it might break the strap or crush the filter.
Then it's time to bring out the big channel locks!
Make sure you apply a thin film of oil on the gasket when you replace the filter, and don't over tighten it.

+1 to remove old filter. The new one can be put on tight enough by hand.

Space between oil filter and concrete doesn't leave much! If I hadn't found that angled plier wrench it would of been the ole shade tree mechanic screwdriver. One good thing they atleast made it accesible without taking anything off. I always enjoyed my old 84 Blazer. Take a 1 foot socket extension (actually a bunch of them, whatever was laying around in the garage) and cap end thru the inner fender. Lay into into with a breaker bar...no problem. LOL

I maintain two street bikes and two ATV's and have many different filter tools but this one seems to work best:

That one wouldn't work on my 14 now that I've got a Purolator 14610 filter on it. I wouldn't be able to get that wrench on. Filter is too close to the header.
