loud rattle on cold starts?

the search on here is lame .... My bike has a loud rattle on cold starts like the motor is out of oil. I have 10K miles on it and have changed oil every 2 k . does anyone have this going on? It goes away after the oil pressure builds.
I am tired of the backfire on decel too. scares the shit out of the rider next to me. I tried plugging the hose to airbox and that didnt help much. I heard of the tre specifically for that. does it take away the gear indicator? (no flies, pc3, muzzy full system)

It is the cam chain tensioner, and it is a common complaint. My bike has 1250 miles on it, and has done it from day one.

most likely your cam chain tensioner, it needs pressure to work. you can get a manual one if you like. or just don't worry about it.

there is a tre that is made to eliminate decel pops, but it will mess up your gear indicator. this tre is for sale at schnitz or brock's sites to name a few. i wouldn't use a tre but some do and like it.

you can modify a zx12r tensioner to fit to eliminate that problem, or get a manual tensioner (if you know how to set them)
what hose did you block? theres 2 (just want to make sure you didnt block the crank case vent)

I like the pop ...It gives notice to the busa guys that they just got a beatin ... If you don't like it turn the throttle back on a bit just before you hit 3000 RPMs on decell ....Or pull the clutch in , either will work ..

Mine rattles for about a second right after she starts and the starter is disengaging...thought it was the starter, but it only does it on cold starts. If the oil has a chance to pump at all, it doesnt do it any more. Chain tensioner/timing chain makes sense.

I have the TRE and is DOES NOT eliminate the POP.

Block off plates for the reeds, onthe air injection system (smog system), with eliminate the pop.

That is what the system is suppose to do. Burn off and fuel that is being exhausted out of the cylinders. You probaby have a slip on or aftermarket exhaust. Opps! I just read your whole post. The cats inthe stock usually mask the pop.

Eliminate the air being injected and you will eliminate the pop.

Just ignore it. Both of mine have done this from day 1. No problems have developed.

thanks for some answers! The hose was the one comes from valve covers (2) joins at a solenoid looking unit and continues (larger now) to the airbox. I thought oh shit I plugged the crank vent and took it back out after a test ride (still popped)
thats interesting about adding fuel in the map. Its distracting to keep part throttle on/ clutch in between fast corners or downhill engine braking. a TRE isnt gonna happen on this bike again.

Mine just started the rattle a few hundred miles ago. I thought the clutch basket was coming apart. If someone has a second explain what's happening. Is it rattling until it gets itself adjusted or does something need replaced? I used to race the old KZ's and had manual adjusters on those but have never adjusted one on a new bike.

Just bought a 14. Has a slight knocking sound down lower when blipping the throttle lightly. only blip up to about 3 grand and as it idles back down, I here a slight knock. Does that sound like a major problem brewing or is that normal. It has fresh oil change but I don't know what type is in there. Never really paid attention to it much on my friends bike.

Also I also just plugged up the big hose going into the airbox, will it hurt anything? Do I need to remove the blockage?

Also what is the stock sprocket sizes?

any input?

speaking of old KZ's they were crabby if the carbs werent sincronized . I've read the 14's can also be sinc'ed. the slight blip of the throttle does remind of that... mine does it too

Check to see if any of your throttle body clamps are loose. I had a decel pop also
and tightening up the clamps solved the problem.
