Bodywork question...
Last night my wife and myself went to a going a way party for a friend leaving Monday for his second tour in Afghanistan. The party was being hosted at a bar, but as we were not planning on staying late (or having anything to drink)… and wanted to show off my wife’s new bike (08 650 Ninja), we decided to take the bikes.
Long story short we parked the bikes in what I deemed a relatively safe area at the back of the bar, where no garbage trucks were likely to hit them (My bike was hit by a garbage truck wile parked about 6 weeks ago). But on exiting the Bar about 1030 PM we noticed that my wife’s bike had been moved a few feet and the mirror was pointing at the sky.
It looks like someone knocked it over and then stood it back up… to say my wife was unhappy would have been a grouse understatement (she would have made a sailor blush with her language).
The damage… R/S Mirror Scratched; R/S Upper and lower Fairing Scratched… and it looks like the rear brake was bent in?
We are not going to make an insurance claim or replace the parts… it would probably only be $900 or so but still more than we want to pay considering she is a beginner rider.
My question to you the knower’s of all things motorcycle… what is the best way to minimize the visibility of the scratches on the fairing… I was thinking Black permanent marker? Has anyone tried it any better suggestions? Note: I have a lot of Black ZX14 bodywork to practice on first ;-)

black paint pen, or black magic markers work good to hide small obscure stuff that isn't deep.
I don't know what the damage looks like but coloring the side of th bike would not be an option for me...

Your local Kawasaki dealer should have touch up paint. Black markers are transparent and don't do a good job in covering unless its a real small scratch. If you cant spray it correctly, then buy the correct touch up paint. Do it once and be done...

I tried the black permanent marker idea on the scratches on one of my replaced 14 panels and it looks like “CRAP”. I will look around for a paint stick and try that if I can find one…

I have used Turtle Wax Colour Magic with decent results. It's a few bucks and you get a lipstick thingy and a bottle of wax. You rub the lipstick on the scratched and then lightly buff them out. Apply the wax and buff again. I will use it again.

my wife dumped her 650 ninja when she first got it. it had more damage than yours including a upper and lower fairing, rear cowling, foot peg ,the big hunk of aluminum the foot peg mounts to and the mirror. i removed the brake petal and bent it back. everything else i got new oem from babbits.com for under $500

My wife dropped her new '07 650 in our driveway twice. We have a steep driveway and she lost her footing both times. (no injuries). I bought new center and lower panels for the right side. We also had to buy the Ninja sticker as the replacement plastics don't come with the logo. I also bought Kawasaki's frame sliders. Pricey, but already earned their money. She dropped it a third time turning it around. No scratch at all this time.
I then sold all of the old plastic on Ebay for almost what I paid for the new ones. I was suprised I could get that much. In the end, I paid just over $100 for new stuff after selling the old. The big ouch was the sliders. They look good though.
I'm also looking at getting her Kawasaki's lower seat. They make a seat that is 1" lower than stock. She's 5'6" and we're both confident this will help maneuever the bike around.
Sorry about your loss, but if it had to happen, this is the best way. No pain.
