anyone running 16/45 gearing?

I'm at 17/45 right now, bike feels like it could still use more gearing....

I had 16/42 before, now with the 17/45, it doesn't feel like its pulling as hard as it was with the 16/42. These gears are almost identical in overall ratio.

I'm a fat bastard(270 @4000ft.), so I need all the gearing I can get, just wondering if anyone else has ran this setup. FWIW, nobody wanted to race me until I was headed home....then everyone was revvving their shit as I was headed out the gate...freakin' slackers.
thx
jeff

Quick sidenote>>>>

.....so this guy on an expensive slow custom cruiser tells me:
him: "Whats wrong with your airshifter? You're hitting the rev limiter."
Me: " Not using the airshifter, not hitting the revlimiter, that light is the shift light."
him: " Drop two teeth on the front and you'll be good. I ran 9.7 on my R1 here..."
me: "Really....hummm, see ya."

I've still got my 16t, 41t, and my 42t. I'm thinking 16/45 may just be a bit too much.

shift light is off a bit too since I installed the speadohealer.....

Airshifter is leaking inside, no time to pull the plastics and fix it, so I was just working on my launches last night.

I got me a 16 the other day, but I'm waiting for my speedohealer to come in. I hate that it's gonna mess with my gear indicator, but I think it will make for a more fun ride.

Im running 16/44 and im 235 with gear....16/44 seems to be border line for the the way i ride. If the bike hooks it will bog alittle, I was thinking of trying 16/45. I dont think you will have any problems with this gear. I go thru the traps at the top of 5th.

My buddy uses the 16-45 now... Crosses the finish line top of fifth right at redline, not in the limiter...

Damn man---me running 16/43's and the bike is just silly and won't stay down -- me:6'2" 215 lbs. I can only imagine how insane 16/45's must be. BTW, on 16/45's, top end will drop to under 160 without an S/H.

Lietome 16/44 should be perfect for you when I was up in Philadelphia I went by Rickey Gadsons shop and spoke with him at length!! about gearing a 14 for a guy my size 285 he told me about a friend of his that is 280 and they tested for a several months with every different gear setup you could think of and he said 16/44 was by far the most consistently fast he told me at 280 his friend had a little to much tendency to wheelie at 16/45. But with a "good" clutch hand 16/44 should carry the front wheel about an .5 inch thru 330 mark I guess that is a good thing, I never knew that... I assumed any "wheelie" no matter how small was bad. but he said something to the affect of carrying the front wheel just slightly off the ground drastically reduces rolling friction... So when I got home I looked up as many pictures of drag racing as I could find and sure enough A LOT of the fastest guys do appear to be carrying the front wheel slightly.. Smokin can you offer any insight into this, I quite possibly could have misuderstood Rickey

I would say Ricky is right ... 1/2 inch off the ground would be faster ...BUT any higher it will slow down ....My best 330 times are with the wheel just floating a hair off the ground .. Here is a picture that is a little to high but still pulled off a 8.81 ..

yeah the more I thought about it the more it made sense it seems to me that it is like basically cutting the rotating mass in half not to mention the loss of the friction caused by the front wheel not touching... I have also heard of some guys "prying"rear brake apart before the run they say it makes the rear wheel spin MUCH MUCH easier I have been a little hesitant to try it but I might since I dont really use the rearbrake in the shutdown that much anyway and a few pumps it is back to working. Have you heard of this Lee?

Not in the 1/4 mile but the guys that run Maxton and the TX mile do it ... Smokin..

alot of guys around here dont run rear brakes at all. I'm kinda 50/50 on that ideal.....i hardly ever use them and the front brakes are damn good for getting the bike slowed down from 150...so to each his own i guess.

I'll be trying out the 16/45 because I don't own a 44t yet. I'm guessing the 280 pounder was getting those times at close to sea level...so I'm assuming that it may be just about perfect for me here at 4000ft( about 10% down on power compared to the sea level fellas???) It will be about two weeks before I can try it out. I'll have my airshifter fine tuned...(or not leaking anyway) by then, so the high wheeelies wont be an issue.

I need to start a new thread on my shift light too.

Forget the new thread...

My shift light seems to be off a tad. I was assuming that the shift light would not be affexted by the speedohealer....I'm pretty sure my thinking is off.

My speedohealer is set to -14%(17/45), and the speed is just about perfect.
The shift light which used to trigger at 10,800 is now not coming on unless I hit somewhere over 11K. I didn't have time to adjust it at the track, cars were stacking up way to quick. So, I'm guessing I need to back the RPMs off(on the shift light) by about 10% to get back to the 10,800 trigger of the shiftlight...

I know once I go with the 16/45, it will only be off even more. Am I correct in assuming that the RPMs are reading higher {or lower }going into the shift light? I pulled the signal for the shift light at the #2coil coming from{to} the ECU.
Any thought are appreciated. I wont be able to race for a couple weeks, so I'm trying to get this shifter, gearing, and light kicked in the pants so I can race and less time wrenching when I get back to the track.

As always, thanks for the assist!
jeff

I was playing around with mine wednesday night and noticed this too. I had my shift light set at 10,500 and i figured by the time i caught the light it would be around 10,800 or so. I bumped my shift light up to 11,000 and normally i watch the tach going down the track. It would shoot past 11 and the shift light would not come on. I dont know what i did but i caught it good on one pass and it mph 153! Normally it would do 148-149...this was the highest mph i seen on my bike so far....looks like i need to pay more attention to my shift points....

+1 Get that shift right before the limiter and watch the mph go up up up.. Brock stated the zx14 limiter is at 11400 and i try to hit it right at 11300 .Smokin..

Lee, not many guys can mash the throttle open the way you do!!!

I am one of those guys that has alot of finese and cannot just mash in the throttle, so the gearing works for me

Everyone has a different style of riding, so you need to figure out what your style is and when you get use to it then you can take gear out of it...

+1 Nobody rides the same and no one gear works best for all ...You have to find what works for you ....
