Testing pipes > four of them...

I am about broke buying and testing pipes ..(.4 Pipes so far ) so i have done the hard work so now you can pick what works best for your type of driving ..

First pipe > Muzzys S/S with S/S oval can.. Great pipe for the dollar , fits well and looks good, Great pipe for the street , not to loud but sounds sweet and the pipe adds a good bit of power over stock or slip ons...

Second pipe ... Brocks street Meg > Fits great , looks great, install is a breeze , Sounds killer , deep tone , has the sound of a well tuned big block ..Power !!! lots of power , killer street and strip pipe ..What can i say about this pipe because it does it all...

Third pipe > Muzzys Sidewinder , fit not so good , finish not so good ,Sounds great good tone, not great for the street ..but hey it's a race pipe so it doesn't need to be a great street pipe.. Power in my drag strip testing show for me to be a bit down Power ( ET & MPH) Vs the Brocks Street meg ...There are a lot of fast zx14s using the pipe so don't count it out ..

Forth Pipe >Brocks 4-2-1 Sidewinder .. Great looks , fits like a glove , easy to install just like the Smeg .. The sound if very deep and puts fear into other bikes ...This pipe is mean !! I'm still testing this pipe, so far i have about 10 runs on it, compared to many many more runs on the other pipes...The other pipe were tested in cooler air ( winter air ) .. Tests on the Brocks Sidewinder have been done in spring air here in FL... Spring air in FL is like summer in other places 82 Deg to 87 deg days and humiditiy to match .. Hot and sticky are the words we have for spring in FL .. I have tested the other pipes with MR9 VP fuel but was unable to get more MR9 fuel so i used the lesser powered U4 VP fuel ... MR9 is 87 octane and makes more power than the U4 fuel 94 octane in our zx14s .. My best pass on my zx14 with a Brocks Street meg was 8.77 @ 153.11 with a 60 footer of 1.38 .....The Sidewinder with a lesser fuel and hotter air temps has run 8.81 @ 157.60 with a 60 footer of 1.41 ... So you can see from the MPH ( 157 Vs 153 ) that the Sidewinder is making more HP !!!! So to prove to myself that the Sidewinder is faster i reinstalled Brocks Smeg and made a few passes to back up my Data ... The best i could muster in the heat with U4 fuel was 8.86 @ 153 and a 8.87 @ 153 .. Those were my best passes with a 1.40 60 footer .. I had a lot more passes tonight that were not so great at 8.90s . Where the Sidewinder was always in the low 8.80s ...If i had this Sidewinder back when the air was in the 60s and 70s it would have run 8.60s with ease ..4 MPH higher trap speeds tell the story ...

So there you have it, Now it's time to pick your weapon !!!!! I guess you know what pipe Smokin picked..

Nice real world evaluation.

Yep we have wonderfull weather sticky, hot weather here from now until Nov (No Florida) whay many are moving here I dunno. I hate the humidity! and them skeeters and fire ants but we do have a nice selection of long flat stretchs of pavement at sea level to exploit the outer limits

The Muzzy Sidewinder needs lots of cutting of the lower cowling !!! and i mean lots of cutting !! the Brocks Sidewinder only needs a little trim below the factory hole ..The Brocks comes with a nice template and the Muzzy come without a template.... The real reason for the Sidewinder pipe is to be able to lower the bike more than a standard pipe ...Lowering the bike will lower your ETs .... I have NOT lowered my zx14 to take full advantage of the Sidewinder pipe.. That's a test for another day ... Smokin...

Dynos are a good tool but the track tells the story in MPH ..Here is a link to a Motorcycle Quarter Mile E.T. and MPH Estimator>>
http://www.amaprostar.com/dynos.asp

I used this to see what HP gains i got between pipes ..

Smeg > Rider and bike WT ( My bike with me on it 635 LBS) and MPH 155 = 184 HP
Brocks Sidewinder > Rider & bike WT ( 635 LBS ) and MPH 157 = 191 hp

Those were my best MPH on each pipe ....So as you can see it's about a 7 hp increase . While this may not be 100% correct is is very close...Smokin...

Yes Rick i used a Siderwinder map from Brock.. I didn't see much gain in the 1/8 mile MPH but i could realy feel the top end pull on the back half..

You made me feel even more confident about buying a Smeg! Thank you! The information is great, and what's better is the fact that you are a regular person and not someone trying to profit off of your selections.

I am curious - how loud is the sidewinder - also is it lighter weight?
Thanks,

straight headers..

I am currently fabricating a set of cans for the bike...

There is no muffler at all just straight flow thru.
Anyone have a map made for straight pipes?
Powerloss, gains.
I am thinking I may loose in the bottom end and gain in the top end...
Any thoughts?
Has anyone dyno'd any thing like this?
