My bike runs way cooler now.

I wanted to post this as "food for thought"
I posted this in another forum - thought i'd share it here !

Most of you know I recently put the new Ohlin front end on my 1400.
While I expected the fantasic handeling - I got a bit more. The bike is
running considerably cooler. Operating temp on the frwy is 1 bar above
cold, around town driving is 2 bars. (center)

Allthough it's not been really hot, its been high 70s to 80*. So to get back
on track here, the only thing I changed from the stock configuration is the
front fender, which came off a ZX-10. So are the deflectors over the fork
tubes allowing more air flow to the radiator than the stock fender. This
is a very substacial change. While I had concerns with the turbo running
hotter than stock .... I have just the opposite.

Is it areodynamics over function for Kawasaki ?

Bob

Wow i may have to try that fender mod myself to see it you are alone or not.

Would make sense though cause the stock fender is a pretty big obstruction.

While I never liked the stock fender, when I did the front end it was easy to fit the ZX-10
fender to the Ohlins. Im sure you could make / modifie a bracket to fit the 10 fender to
the 14. I'll take a look and if I have any ideas ... I'll post em up before you guys go out
and buy fenders ($134.00)

That's good news Bob, for the average street rider!!!

What that means for the 1/4 mile and mile racers is that the aero dynamics are now effected!!!

The areodynamics are better on the zx10 .. they tested a zx10 Busa and zx10 and the zx10 was more areodynamic than the zx14 but not as good as the busa ... But they all were very close..

Bob, you kidding us? The front fender, which looks way better -- actually allows better airflow too? That works for me; just need a retro-fit bracket now...and a black 10R fender! Only downside I can see is that the 10R fender will allow more shit get spit up into the rad, it seems...

Is it an 06 or lower year fender?

So smokin, the busa is more aerodynamic than the zx14?
Interesting how the zx10 is more aerodynamic than the zx14 as well...
Hmm,if ones Cd ratio was like 1 or 2 apart it wouldnt really matter anyhows..

FBA - More air flow would probably = more shit in the radiator, but so far no issues !

The fender I ordered was an 06 ZX-10.

The Honda Blackbird is more aerodynamic than all the above. That's how it's able to hit 189+ MPH all stock with 136 HP to the rear tire.

I agree the ZX-10's fender may allow more airflow to the radiator, but remember the 10's not designed to be a 200 MPH hyperbike, either. The 14's fender is designed the way it is to help cut the drag at the high end from air entering the front radiator shroud. I guess that if all you ever do is street riding through high traffic it would probably be a benefit.

Another thing that causes drag are those 2 big canisters in the rear. The Brock's SMEG should give you the aero effect of adding an additonal 10+ HP at the big end from drag elimination alone, not to mention the gains from the pipe and a fuel remap.

I think the best solution might be to get a slightly lower thermostat and trigger the fan at the lower temp, and to install a metal-bladed fan.

Busa is still the most aerodynamic of all of them today. It's why the 151 RWHP gets the bike to 194+ the way it did, back in the day.

I guess I'm alone in thinking the 14 fender looks real good. Better cooling would be nice though.

Removed the deflectors from the stock fender weeks ago and noticed the bike cools down much sooner after starting off and seems to run one bar cooler while moving but more air into the bike just made things hotter for me so I wrapped the exhaust. This all made the stock bike better to live with.

I have also fabed up my own set of oval style Qwick Pipes set at a 45 degrees. The wife loves them, no drag issues and no burn worries ( differant topic ). Will post later. I guess I need to be slow guy instead of ic.

ZxBob the bike looks great with the ohlins and the rims. Hey guys I got a pair of brackets from Dubious and put the 10r fender on my bike, AND HELL YEAH IT MADE A DIFFERENCE.

Only one bar above the mid point sitting around and while i was running never above two.
