Amber Color Marker Lights

I have always disliked the look of the stock marker lights on the 14. These are the 2 outside bulbs that come on first when the key is turned. They are a little too yellow and don't match the head projector lights at all. I decided that the look of amber bulbs might be nice. I took out the stock bulb and went to Advanced Discount Auto Parts and found the equivelant bulb (5w / 12v I believe) in amber color. It took all of 5 minutes to change out and I really like the look. It sure looks unique. What do you think?

I know that vehicle lighting regulations vary from place to place but here in the UK...

I wouldn't fit amber running lights. If another road user could only see one side of the bike they might think it was a turn signal and pull out in front of you.

Looks nice but I'd rather some red ones. I'm guessing that might be illegal though.

Tonytooth, have you checked the regs here in the Bay area? Because I was thinking about red bulbs like Phytrax . I don't think it's worth getting a ticket over. Although, in most cases like this you would just get a fix-it-ticket.

In the US, it's the law to have amber side-marker lights, and *most* vehicles also have amber front marker lights that run when the headlights are on.

In fact, nearly every motorcycle I've seen in the US for many years has amber front marker lights, so it's probably a DOT spec for us. I've even heard of Hardley owners swapping out their front amber marker lamps for clear and getting ticketed (can't remember what state that was though).

tonytooth - I really like the look of those markers too, I think I'll be switching to those soon!

Red or Blue around here won't get you a "fix-it" ticket, they'll get you a real live ticket for impersonating an emergency vehicle (or something to that affect). "fix-it" tickets are reserved for broken lights unless the cop is just being nice that day...

Yes amber running lights do come oem on a lot of vehicles so I think it would be fine. I did the same mod on my Avalanche truck as well. It had white running lights and I swapped them out for amber ones. It looks better as well.

Good point - I'd like to see a pic of that too!

Amber DRL's are OEM on late-model Camaro's, Corvette's, and many other GM cars. I wonder why they use white on their trucks? I LOVE that new Avalanche... there will be one in my garage within a year! Just waiting for GM to hurry up already with the 6-sp auto transmission.

The new AV is sick looking. I think I am in love. I am a nats ass from trading my 05 in on the new one. The prob is I have lots of mods done to mine so I am hesitant to do that. Here's pics...

I live in southern MS and they are usually pretty laid back about stuff like running lights, emissions, etc. I might get the red ones and risk it. With all the money we spend on our bikes a $100 ticket isn't all that big a deal for an original looking bike. That type of ticket shouldn't affect your insurance or add points to your license. Anyone know where to get red bulbs like that or what type of bulb to ask for exactly?

Bad thing is you would be easy to find if the cops were looking for you.

Believe me I thought of all sorts of color schemes but that is the reason I stayed with amber. My jacket sticks out enough. I don't need any other obvious signs.

I know alot of manufacturers sell "tinted"headlights I am sure colored runnin lights would be fine especially in Arkansas and Mississippi they are pretty laid back about that sort of thing in the south Phytrax let me know if you find some I am currently talking to Drastikplastix.com about some red "Halo" lights for my bike... they are sort of like the Angel eyes and Demon Eyes you see on a lot of Custom R1's

Yes those "Halos" look very sweet. I would be interested in those as well if you get some info. I talked to someone who had them on another bike and he spent some good money for those.

Never heard of Halo lights, I'd like to see some of those. Gonna look for some red ones today maybe at local stores, Autozone, etc. Might just go with the amber though, for five-oh reasons.

Got the red ones. They are more red than they look in the pic. I enhanced it as much as I could but they are still more red than that. Found them at autozone. They were at the end of the isle instead of next to the regular 194 bulbs. They're a little more pink than I wanted, but still look good.
