Mapping and flies out

Hey guys,

just recently registered but been surfing this site for ages as I had a 2000 12R for six years and recently picked up a 14. I have been reading with interest the threads regarding flies out and mapping etc etc. However even though a couple of people have scraped the surface of my concern I have not seen a good answer yet - forgive me if I have missed something!
Having ridden the 14 in stock form for close to 700 miles it is clear that the "restriction" becomes progressively less through the gears - 1 thru 4. This implies that the secondaries open up at different rates through the lower gears and therefore by definition the fuel map has to be different in each gear. Once the flies are removed there would be a progressively leaner condition the lower the gear. Now since a PCIII simply changes the overall map I cannot see how the air fuel ratio can be correct in each gear. For example if it is custom mapped in 4th gear (most tuners do this) then how can it be right in 1st gear??
What I would like to see are dyno curves, obviously with A/F ratio, from a custom mapped 14 with flies out having benn pulled in each gear.

Cheers!

A/F ratio's are just fine in all of the gears. Pull the flies and see for yourself...riding the bike will tell the whole story. Why should the A/F change from gear to gear if there's nothing to impede the airflow? What's going to change from gear to gear except maybe timing? The map covers each 100 or so RPM and TP all the way up...

Don't think you're going to find any Dyno runs in each gear, unless you do them yourself...and at that, what you're going to find might be negligible differences...nothing you'd feel anyway.

If you pull them and ride...you won't bother with independant gear mapping attempts, which can't be done anyway (for now). It seems that the factory maps work fine with the compensation from the PC3. It seems to work fine in the 1/4 mile times around here and top speed as well...no real stutter/hesitation...what more would one need than that?

Welcome to the boards and great choice in bikes!

As you will see throughout this site, at times there have many people resistant to pulling the Flies, however I don't think to date anyone who has pulled them, has put them back in... Its a whole new ANIMAL, and that is an understatement.

Congrats on both your new 14s, 2 4 the price...
Flys in
Flys out w/map/pipe
Both nice bikes, smoothe, civilized, decent mpg.
Be sure ur ready to wheelie off idle, no clutch if u pull flys.
Mine stays down in 3rd probably at least until the ignition map and cams are out.

Thanks for the input guys. I will at some point pull the flies but I do intend to have some dyno pulls made through the gears before and after to see how the A/F curve looks. Tuesday I should have full Yosh system in my hands. Worked a deal to get the Tri Oval "dual tip" muffler and also had provision for O2 sensor put into mid pipe section. Will install Autometer A/F gage together with 4-wire sensor soon. I will be in need of a map for full Yosh system with flies in for the meantime, until I take flies out.
