power commander failed????

Just installed a power commander 3 usb on my ZX14. (The bike is all stock by the way.) Anyway, it started out great but after riding on the freeway in stop and go trafic for a short while the bike just died. it almost felt like it was out of fuel. (filled up this morning) so on the side of the road I removed the PC3 and off I went. Anyone have an idea what could have happend?
thanks in advance. TD

First report I've heard of a USB model freaking out, but it's certainly common enuff on the older models. Word of advice: check your oil carefully for signs of fuel in it. That was real common on the older models where they would freak out and flood out the bike, pushing fuel past the rings into the oil. Thins your oil out to about oh...-10 weight...

also check that you didnt crush or pinch the USB harness at any point. If you did (in the least) you could have shorted it out.

You know, that may be one big reason to use the factory recommendations when installing. The path they show and location they specify will certainly preclude any chances to pinch the cable to the unit.

I think I fixed it. I followed the instructions with the exception of the ground wire. Instead of using the coolant bottle mounting screw, I used the cross bar that attaches to the cylinder head. Checking it with and ohmmeter showed too much resistance. I think it just wasn't grounded right. I just got back from a test ride and it looks like I'm back in business!
