14 Now Protected By A Pit Bull

Sorry for the mis-direct. Ain't got the pit bull with jaws of steel. Instead, since I lost my
centerstand due to the addition of the exhaust I had to go with a rear stand. I think it was
zerMatt that suggested the forward handle stand? If so, thanks. Fits the bike well. First lift scared the crap outta me but after I changed underwear I figured out it was pretty easy to raise the bike. Just wish the lift handle cleared sidestand if it was left down. I'm thinking a
little adjustment here and there will fix that problem. Everybody's seen pics, but what the hey, I got my rear stand today and I'm showing a pic cause this is my thread and I want to.

Sorry, thought most had seen these stands before and knew what it was. It's a Pit Bull Forward Handle Rear Stand http://www.pit-bull.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=182&products_id=68. I ordered mine through Kneedraggers.com because I had puck points built up from previous orders. Each puck point is basically $1 off of your order price and you get puck points for each order. My puck points paid the shipping cost so I didn't bother trying to find the absolute lowest cost. Plus Kneedraggers has always given me good service. Here's the link to Kneedraggers. If you look around you might find it cheaper. I think zerMatt was the one who made the initial recommendation so he might know a cheaper source. The forward handle makes it easier to hold the bike while you raise it on the stand. First raise still scares the crap out of ya if you aren't used to rear stands. But then you get it figured out and its easy after that.

http://www.kneedraggers.com/list/5.3. It is stand number 2 in the list and sells at Kneedraggers for $129 plus shipping.

That forward handle stand is THE BOMB!

Glad you like it. I show mine off every chance I get.

I got mine at the local Cycle Gear store. They didn't charge shipping, but they do charge close to full retail, so I paid something like $140 total. Not a bad deal, and like all Pit Bull stands, it's built like... well... a Pit Bull!

Oh yeah, I also ordered the spooled version of the stand and the spool kit. No additional charge for the spooled stand vs. non-spooled stand, just a few more parts. For the ZX14 you need the 12mm spools. The spools are an additional $10.

I also took zerMATT's suggestion for this stand.
It looked foolproof! Obviously, Pitbull didn't let me in on the field tests.

As mentioned, the sidestand interferes so the first time I tried to lift it, I had to let the handle back up to put the sidestand up.
In the process, the stand came off of the spool on the other side of the bike.
The bike started falling away from me!
I yelled "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" and pulled it back toward me with all the strength I had, but visions of it on its side were dancing in my head.. Somehow, I saved it!
It's a wonder that I remembered to put the sidestand back down before leaning it down toward me.

I walked away and had to wait a half-hour before trying a second time. The second time want a lot smoother.

The moral: Be careful boys and girls!

Yep lucky14, I had a similar problem on my first raise. It contacted the sidestand when left in the down position. I immediately lowered the bike rather than continued to raise it. I didn't come near to dropping it, but I had visions of dropping it dancing through my head. Took me awhile to make another attempt and then, like I said, it scared the crap outta me cause I didn't think I had control. But I did. It's a little more ackward than I would like, but its gotta be better than a conventional rear stand. Glad you didn't drop your bike. I'll use the sidestand
most often, but the rear stand makes it much easier for tire changing and chain maintainence. Plus I think it will be a bonus during winter storage.

Wow - lucky save!

I've always been very careful about my timing with lifting and lowering the side-stand in conjunction with using this. I wait until I have the bike firmly cradled on the spools, then I flip it up. That way the handle isn't in the way and the bike is supported. Same going back down, I drop the bike on the rear tire, then with firm pressure still on the handle, I lower the side-stand.

I guess that should be a firm warning for all first-time pull-forward rear stand users...

Yah, it's a great stand. I dunno it it's easier than a rear stand or not. But I like being able to walk around the bike without fear of tripping...

You don't think it's easier, swft? I liked my pit-bull rear for my ZRX because it had handles on the tail to hold onto while you balanced the bike, but the '14 doesn't have anything to hold onto back there, so the pull forward just made more sense. Even though there are a few "gotchas", you really do have more control because you are standing *right there* the whole time.

When I started using the rear stand on my ZRX years back, I felt a lot more uncomfortable. If the bike starts to tip while you are behind it, you have absolutely NO chance at catching it.

That's true. But you can see both spools from the rear of the bike with a rear stand.

I had a "conventional" rear stand for the REX and I was uncomfortable enough that I considered it a 2 person job, even if it was my wife (not big or strong) helping..............
I like this stand a LOT better.

Is there a huge difference with the Spooled Rear Stand by Pit-Bull and the Forward Handled Rear (no spools) that you got first? I am buying the rear spooled version and I was curious if one was better than the other or if it is just a matter of personal preference. Thanks for the heads-up by the way... I am going to check out the Kneedraggers website now.

Personal preference mostly. The spooled version is more exact, in that you
can't misposition it. If it's on the spools, you're good to go.

I have the Powerstands version of the forward handle lift, http://www.powerstands.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=31&Product_ID=18&CATID=1. Works well, removable long handle for leverage. BTW, the Sato swingarm spools I use are a 10mm thread.

Don't get a non-spooled stand. Whether you get the rear handle or forward handle (rear) stand, get the spooled version. It's much more positive and stable.

Plus, having spools on your swingarm protects it a little in the event of a lay-down. I got the Lockhart Phillips spool-sliders for even more protection.
