More dragracing...

Ok went to the drags lastnight like i do every wednesday....this is what i found out so far. It was hot as fuck ...105 with the heat index....i have no ideal how hot the track was but it was supper slippery. We had to air down to around 10-12 psi to even try and hook. No psi kills MPH sooo.. Got about 8 runs in...none of them great. My best was a 9.63 at 143. I lowered the ass end of my bike down on the last hole of my muzzy lowering links. The bike launches good...no wheelie but it's begging for gear. I'm 2 down on the back and it needs more. The bike would bog out of the hole even launching at around 9000RPM. Everybody was down on MPH and ET yesterday. I was pulling 1.55 sixtys but was doing 1.50 sixtys with the bike on the middle hole of the links, and i think thats because i dont need as much gear with it that way. Also on the lowest link the tire rubs the undertail and i have a finger size hole in the plastic now. I want to run 9.30's on this bike but i dont think i will be able to do it until this hot weather is over. The clutch is holding up so far i have 16 passes on it and about 100 miles. I'll beat on it alittle more before i give it the stamp of approval for you guys. Thanks Crotch rocket and Smokin for your help with that.

you mean you are +2 on the rear?

have someone watch to make sure you are feeding more throttle as you release the clutch (not an insult to your ability just an observation I have seen over the years)

flatoutbu I had the same problems last night .... 94 deg and the track temp has 140 !!!! I had to go down to 16 psi to get it out of the hole .... I had one 146 60 footer but when i shifted to second it would start spinning...Third gear shift same thing !!!!! Best i could muster was two runs of 6.00@ 119 and was damn lucky to get them...Smokin ........

Yea i'm +2 on the back...no insult taken...it's a constant learing process, been doing it since i was 15 and i still need practice...lol I'm going to the track tonight , it's supposed to be 65 degrees so we should have some good air. i'm putting the suspension back in the second hole of my links and i'm going to clutch it more out of the hole....we'll see what happens and i'll let you guys know.

Bu, your better off going with a 16 tooth front sprocket...What the smaller front sprocket does is make the bike react faster!!!...Thats why you want a smaller front sprocket !!!

The heat kills HP, so everyone will bog!!!...It's like learning to ride all over again!!!

You need to turn the rear shock spring adjuster 2 turns clockwise, that will prevent the tire rubbing on the plastic...After you do then put a dab of shoe polish to see if it stil rubs...If so, then make another turn on the spring!!!

Question are both of you guys stretched? What mods have you done?
You are both crushing my times, I'm 220 in shorts total bike & rider weight 775,
completely stock, strapped and lowered, launching @ 4500, tire @ 28psi

My best 60ft. is 1.69,
330 is 4.374,
1/8 is 6.584 @ 112.42,
1/4 is 10.131 @ 139.36
94 degrees @ 3110DA

Are you just dropping the clutch and letting it spin a little?
I'm still beating every stk Busa I line-up with but they are having better 60's than me!
Advice or ideas appreciated.
Thanks!

CR...i have a 16t sprocket for the bike ...but i'm haveing "issues" with getting the stock one off. I'm going to try and get iton there this weekend...come hell or high water. I have the rear set on firm everything...it's still rubbing pretty good. i even adjusted the spring to raise the rear ...i might put some more preload on the spring and see what it does.

HF...yes im 6 out +2 in the rear..pipe,pc,flies out,shinko,airshifter. At stock i ran a 10.06 at 145 and i'm 235 suited. Pulling 1.65 60's.

Would you think pulling the flies & 16T at stk length will be too unrideable at the track?

My bike is back to stock wheel base now and stock gearing also... So the only mods i have now are strapped, lowered and a Muzzy pipe with NO P/C yet ....
I can tell you what i do but i don't know if it will work for you ..... I stage at 4500 and slip the clutch and twist the throttle at the same time ....I let out clutch as not to lift the front wheel....Keep the tire on the ground or you will kill your ETs ..... Once you are sure the wheel is planted and the RPMs are above 6000 to 7000 pin the throttle.... The way i gauge it is by the 330 cone , i try to have the throttle pinned long before i get to the cone ....The sooner you can pin it the faster you will go .... It's all timing and it take lots of passes to get it down ...The more passes you make the easier it gets ... After some time it's like you are on auto pilot....Smokin....

I would not add any mods till you master what you have now .... Even at you weight you should be able to run 9.60s or something close to that , maybe even better ...So there is a lot left in you bike righ now without adding mods .... When you do start adding mods do one at time ...Every time you add a mod you will have to relearn the bike .....There is just no easy way to this , it just takes tons of passes and it will come ...Smokin..

For you big guys go with the 16 tooth sprocket and leave at 4-5000 rpm...

I saw a big guy about 250lbs. + at MIR 62" wheelbase with 16-43 gearing on his 14...He was getting it moving fast but it was NoTime runs so I dont know how fast he really went...

Brock had mentioned that to me , about the muzzy link, so i bought one from schnitz.
the one from carpenter seems good too.

Ok i got in alot of passes lastnight (11 total)...it was around 72 degrees but still alittle humid. Track prep was awful, this is one of those Fast and furious night where you hear 17 second honda's with fart cans all night. when we first got there the track was ok but nothing special. I left the bike on the lowest hole of my muzzy links and put some more pre load on the spring...which helped alot with the rubbing. First pass: 10.24...blew the tire off(25psi) second pass 9.54 (20psi)better but not hooking the greatest...third pass and best
1.57 60' still spinning
4.092 330
6.139 1/8
120.30mph
7.922 1000ft
9.444 1/4
147.25
This was the best pass of the night for me...track got worse and i had to keep going down on tire pressure. Last pass of the night i stuck my 50 pound lighter cousin on it. the lights fucked up so we could only run 1/8 mile. We unstrapped the front alittle and had 8 psi in the tire.
1.475 60'
3.943 330
5.99 1/8
119.31
I'm not sure what guys are running in your stinko's (psi)...but with our horrible track this was the only way to get it to hook. I hate running it that low, i have hooked on 25 psi before but the track wasnt there lastnight. Next wednesday i'm going to try this set-up and see what happens. I going home to get that damn front sprocket if it kills me.

gen 3,pc,flies out,airshifter,shinko,extensions,+2 in the back and had it dyno tuned. With all my gear on i'm 230-235. I also have all "big" fibers in the clutch basket and shimmed it .140. I havent found the right set up yet for my riding style on this bike....i know it takes time, i just have to play around. I doesnt bother me when i see people going as fast or faster with less mods. It takes alot of bike to get a 200 pound anything down the track. I often wonder how fast alot of guys are if you could match weight. It plays a big part in how these bikes run.

That fact that you weight 230+ pounds and have matched my best ETs and MPH tells me two things ...One your bike is making great power ...Two you are riding the shit out of that thing ..Your doing a good Job and so is the Bike ... Keep them numbers coming ...Smokin ...

That's what I had to do. Was spinning the rear tire with the front strapped down. Now I just tug it a little to take out the slack so it doesn't bang the shit out of the radiator and the wait tranfers great. If the track is hooking good, then strap it down hard. My airshifter will be here tomorrow..woohooooo.....
And I just bought an SUV and trailer, so no more riding to the track..double woohoooo....gonna be strictly a drag bike from now on...

Just got my muzzy airshifter kit today. They use a 1lb bottle and have a nice mount for it. You might look for the generic NOS kit mounts for the 10oz bottle. I would save the front of the swingarm in front of the tire for the regular NOS bottle when you decide to go that route. Not really keen about hangin a 1lb bottle of CO2 off the left side of the bike just behind where the rear pegs used to go, but since it's a trailer queen now, I don't think it really matters. Gonna have to paint the bottle though. Has a stupid NOS sticker on it.
